Ace P.O.V
I was in an important meeting about some of our shipments, when my phone buzzed on the table, indicating a new call. I saw that it was only Daniel, and decided to call him back later.
The little shit decided to call again. And again. And again. Eventually, I told Liam to handle the rest of the meeting and answered the damn phone.
"I was in a meeting." I growl, as soon as I answer.
"Ace!" Brad is panicked, and if I'm not mistaken, I hear tears in his voice.
"What happened?" I ask calmly. In every situation there must always be a calm person.
"What do you mean what happened? Did you not hear Sofie's bracelet?" She pressed the panic button? What the hell?
"What happened?" I repeat, getting into my car.
"She was shot." He whispers, as I feel my heart breaking into a hundred little pieces. "We're at the hospital. We figured you had already heard and were on the way."
Feeling angry, I threw the phone out the car and watched at it got run over by a truck.
"Where is she?" I demand, looking at Dante.
"She's in surgery." He replies, looking completely defeated. I see Bradly wearing a cast on his arm.
"You okay?" I ask. Brad gives me a broken smile.
"Even hen she was in that much pain, the only word she kept repeating was your name." I close my eyes, imagining my sweet kitten in pain.
"How many shots?" I ask, my voice cracking on the last word.
"Three. Dan was with her." I think about Dan might be handling this.
When mom was still alive, Dan always asked her for a sister. I guess he had a nice bond with her. I walk until I'm right outside the operation theatre. Dan was sitting on one of the chairs with his head in his hands, sobbing his eyes out.
Emmalin was trying to comfort him, but she too was crying.
"Hey Emma, I think Nick is here." I say. just as I do, Nick walks up to us, immediately hugging Emmalin. I take a seat next to Dan and place a hand on his shoulder.
"I'm sorry. I'm sorry." He kept repeating it over and over again.
"It's not your fault buddy." I say. That's when I realise I have no idea what happened. "What happened?"
"She wanted us to take her to the mall to check out some ballet happening there. She suggested that Brad take some girl out on Friday." He wipes away the tears on his face.
"Brad left to go get tickets and Sofie took me to the food court to eat. While she was telling me about some gut feeling, she stopped moving. I looked at where she was staring, and saw some guy, but she had this look on her face. Like she'd seen a ghost. Next thing I knew, she tackled me to the floor and had blood coming out of her." He continued, while he kept wiping furiously at the tears that kept falling.
My poor baby.
"I tried to help her. I put pressure on her wounds, but there was just so much blood... so so much." I hugged my brother while he cried.
This reminded me of when we lost our parents. No. we're not losing Sofie. I still need to tell her how much I love her, and how I want to marry her.
She still has so much to accomplish in life. She has a dream of starting a small dance school, and she would name it candyfloss. According to my kitten, it sounded a lot more fun.
Not to mention the fact that she's graduating in a few months, and she was so excited for the mafia ball right after that. she had gotten her dress started a year in advance so that it would be perfect on the day.
"Sofia Folliero?" A doctor says. I immediately get up along with everyone else. "I'm doctor Rodgers. We've removed the three bullets from her, and I think you'll be glad to hear that she's quite a fighter. One of the bullets were eight millimetres from the heart. Sofia is currently in a coma." I felt myself breaking apart.
"When will she wake up?" I croak out. Emmalin was sobbing uncontrollably into Nick's chest. The doctor let out a heavy sigh before speaking.
"I'm not sure. It may take a few days, months, or even years. I will not give you any false hope. Sofia may never wake up." That was clearly my breaking point. My knees buckled below me and I took a seat on one of the chairs.
"C-can we s-see her?" Emmalin asks. The doctor nods, and I slowly make my way to her room. The sight in front of me is just about as much as I can manage.
My beautiful Sofie is wired up to different machines. Her face is pale. I should have been there for her. This is my fault.
"Don't blame yourself. There's nothing you could have done." Liam says from next to me. When did he get here?
"I-" One look at Sofie had me snapping. I quickly walked over to her, kissing her forehead softly and letting my lips linger there for a second longer.
"Mi dispiace amore." (I'm sorry love.) I whisper, before leaving.
I know I should stay with her, but I would fall apart. I need to take my mind off things.
