A/N:
This sucks but thats, okay, maybe.

--

The snow crunched against your heavy-boots as your feet padded against the coated ground. Your lungs burned as you took in each breath, and your cheeks, nose and hands stung with the sensation of frostbite. You always hated walking home in these winter months, but due to the sleet, the busses weren't running and your parents couldn't pick you up, because of work. And so, you had to just bundle up each morning and hope it wasnt colder than the last.

You walked past fellow students, who mostly flocked in groups. Cliques of girls and guys strung around, talking about gossip or whatever they were interested in. It saddened you, a bit- made you jealous. You didn't have that; well, you did. But not anymore. You had hung around with the infamous trio ever since last semester started, Josuke Higashikata,
Okuyasu Nijimura, and Koichi Hirose.

That was, until everything changed. Koichi had a girlfriend, Yukako Yamagishi. Everyone knew Yukako was crazy, but it really had shown when she pinned you down in the girls locker room and threatened you if you kept hanging around Koichi. She accused you of liking him- which, you had to admit, you were quite fond of him. Okay, okay!- you did like him, but, he had a girlfriend, you knew there wasnt a chance, but- she just went crazy on you. You figured it was best to just stay away from all of them, and so you did.

One day Okuyasu showed up at your house, randomly, and demanded to know what was up. Minus the liking Koichi part, you explained, and that was that. None of you had merely uttered a word to each other. It was safer for you like that, because, you didn't think any of you would put it past Yukako to literally just, kill you.
She was a sweet girl but, was legitimately just a psychopath.

A few weeks ago, you found out they had broken up. You had hoped things would go back to the way they were before, but, that didn't seem to be the case- and in a pumped up emotion-frenzy, you left a letter in Koichi's locker, unsigned, explaining how you felt. Now, you regretted it, and since it had been a few weeks, you assumed you were okay- he probably had read it and just didn't care who it was. That was the best option at this point.

Speak of the devil, there he was. Koichi Hirose, on the opposite side of the street. You snuggled in your thick jacket tighter, hoping to go unseen but to no avail he spotted you. He waved, but you gave nothing back. He furrowed his brows and then adverted his path and began walking toward you.

Fuck.

You gave a reluctant smile to the grey-ash haired boy, and he waved. "Hey, (Y/n)!." He greeted.

"Hi."

He walked beside you closely, hands in the pockets of his army-green parka. "So... it's been a while! How've you been?."

"Um, fine- I've been fine. You?."

"I'm good, thanks."

"That's good."

You gritted your teeth and mentally checked out of the conversation. The awkwardness had been too much to handle, the tension so thick it felt like it could suffocate you.

"I'm sorry I haven't talked to you." He scratched the back of his neck, guilt showing on his face. You were taken back a bit but stiffled your reaction. "Why are you apologizing, Koichi? You were dating Yukako, and she didn't like me-." You hung your head, momentarily. "How is Yukako by the way?."

"Shes, uh, okay I think. I've checked on her a little and its hard for her and all but, I know it's for the best."

"Yeah..."

You nibbled on the inside of your lips and cheeks, fidgeting your thumbs around. You didn't know what to say and you were sure neither did he.

"How are Okuyasu and Josuke?."

"They're doing pretty good, but they're always in trouble. You know how they are."

You chuckled a bit, trying not to frown, a pit of sorrow overwhelmed you. You began to think on everything you missed. You had lost your entire friendgroup.

Tears bubbled in your eyes, but you tried your best to not let Koichi see. Of course that didn't last for long. When the droplets cascaded down your face and your nose began running, it was quite obvious.

"Whoa, are you crying?!."

You didn't say anything, instead you kept walking.

"Hey, are you okay? Did I do something?."

"N-no, no, it wasn't you," Your lip trembled as you wiped your eyes. "I just, I've missed everyone, y'know?."

"Y-yeah-."

All of a sudden, raindrops began spilling from the sky. You noticed Koichi rummaging around in his bag before he pulled out a purple-polka dotted umbrella. "Hey, come here." He tugged on your wrist, until you got closer to him, and he held the umbrella high over your heads.

He slipped his hand into yours.

"I-I didn't know it was supposed to rain." You laughed, trying to make light of the situation. "Me either," He smiled. "I always bring one, just incase."

Good ol' Koichi, always prepared for everything. The conversation went dead and all fell silent again.

"I have a question, (Y/n)."

Your blood went cold. "Uh, yeah?."

"Was Yukako right? You know, about, um...liking me, I guess?."

Your stomach churned, and you felt insanely sick. You felt like you were gonna puke. "W-why...-."

"If so, its okay! I just...I wanted to know. Curiosity killed the cat."

"I mean...-." You cut yourself off. You couldn't make anything out of the words that jumbled in your head.

"You know, I got a note a while ago, and it seemed-."

"Yes! Okay, I like you, Koichi! I left the note there, but I never would've tried anything while you were with Yukako! Hell, I wouldn't even try anything now." You stopped walking, and hid your head in your free hand, face beat red of embarrassment.

"Liked or like? As in, you still like me?."

"I...I dont know!." You exclaimed.

"That's okay...," His hand still intertwined with your other palm. He squeezed it tighter. "But, you still wouldn't try anything, now that I'm single?."

You peeked over at him, and dropped your hand. "Why are you even asking? Yukako would still kill me."

"Just wondering," He shrugged. "Lets keep going, I'll walk you to your house?."

You shyly nodded, and continued in your steps along-side him.

You walked hand in hand until you reached your drive-way, and by then, the rain had ceased.

"Hey, thanks for walking me..." You tucked some strands of your hair behind your ear.

"No problem!," For some reason, he hadn't let go of your hand yet. "Do you wanna, hang out this weekend, maybe?." His face flushed a bit.

"Um...yeah, yeah sure!."

"Okay!." He smiled at you, and you returned the favor.

"Uh, I'll call you later and we can make plans, okay?." He asked, and you nodded.

"I'll see you later." He leaned in and kissed your cheek, and before you knew it, he was gone; leaving you blushed and cold in your driveway.
