"I really don't wanna go, Mom. I don't have anyone to go with!." You sighed, flopping face-first, onto your bed.

"Who cares! It'll still be fun, PLUS, we already bought your prom dress! It's literally only two hours away, (Y/n), why back out so late?." She sat down onto the bed next to you and, rubbed your back with a loving hand.

"I...I thought someone would ask me, is all." Your face flushed, but thankfully, you had a face full of comforter right now.

"Oh? Is that it? Anyone in particular?." She pressed, inquisitively.

"No." You lied straight through your teeth. You had had someone on your mind, infact.

Josuke Higashikata. You'd known him since the first semester of high-school at Budo-ga Oka. From his dorky haircut, which you'd never let him hear you say that- to his squeaky dress shoes, you had absolutely been crushing on him from day one. You had quickly gotten along with his group of friends, and it was like you belonged. You had been hoping Josuke would ask, so bad, because your friend, Okuyasu, had mentioned he would. But he never did. Needless to say, you were disappointed, and didn't even want to go at all.

"(Y/n), you only get one prom. I didn't get to go to mine, I just want you to have fun, experience the things I missed. It's important. Go, for me, please?." She pet your hair, and you could sense the frown on her face. With a gush of air, and a groan, you hoisted yourself up from your planted position.

"Fine. Help me get ready."

--

Hair tied and face fresh, your mother deemed you ready. You wore a lovely, just above knee-length black dress, with nice white floral designs on the side. It framed you nicely, but wasn't too tight, either. You paired it with a set of fishnets and some matching black flats. Your mom suggested heels, but, you didn't want to fall flat on your face and make the lonesome night, even worse.

"You look wonderful." She insured, over your shoulder. "Yeah yeah," You snapped your fingers. "You're supposed to say that."

"Am not. If you looked funky, I'd tell you," She jabbed a finger at you. "It's almost time to drop you off! Can I snap a few pictures first?."

The blinding lights flashed the school colors of Budo-ga Oka, and the music pumped as you walked through the heavy doors of the auditorium.

The room was filled considerably, but you could still tell the entire school wasn't there. You guessed people had the same idea, as you had previously. Your mind scanned the crowd unanimously, but your eyes still searched for one person in particular. You wondered what he'd be wearing, if he would be dancing or drinking some of the punch he and Okuyasu had probably spiked, maybe he was even out back smoking a cigarette? You didn't know, but, you wanted to know.

Some of the students danced on the dance-floor, while some sat on the bleachers. You took it upon yourself to, sit near an empty part of the bleacher-benches, yourself.

The room smelled of cheap cologne, perfume, and pizza- you didn't mind the pizza part. Different types of music played, rap, pop, some punk, it was a nice variety, some of them were actually your favorite songs! Still, you didn't dance. You felt a tad embarrassed. You sat on the bleachers with the other partner-less kids, tapping your foot.

You were minding your business, just in your own zone; when you felt a tap on your shoulder. Chills went up your spine and you jolted forward in shock.

You snapped your head around like an owl, grimacing at whomever had disturbed you, but your expression softened when you saw who it was. Okuyasu Nijimura.

"Oh, god, Okuyasu! You nearly made me jump out of my skin!." You exasperated.
"I know, it was wicked!," He laughed. "But listen, I only have a few seconds; Go talk to Josuke, ask him to dance! He's too much of a pussy to ask!." He did a little jig ask he spoke.

"What?! I don't know...."

"Don't be shy! You only live once. I told you he really likes you, he wanted to ask but he's a loser," He rolled his eyes. "Oops, I gotta go. He's gonna get suspicious- Go ask or I'm gonna kick both of your asses on Monday!."

And with that, he was off.

You sat there in the same spot for around fifteen minutes, until your legs stopped shaking in anticipation from what you were about to do- or what you thought you were about to do. You didn't know if you could even go through with it yet...agh...the curse of being shy!

You mustered all the courage in you, just to stand to your feet. And now to find him...

You wandered around the auditorium, searching aimlessly, until when by fate; you just so happened to bump into the chest of the person you were looking for.

His bright blue eyes sparkled down at you, as he cheesily grinned. "O-Oh hey, (Y/n)! Sorry for bumping into you, I wasn't watching where I was going!."

"No, no, it was my fault, really..." You pushed some of the strands of your hair framing your face, behind your ear.

You could practically hear the crickets chirp.

"Um, so...what're you doing?." He cleared his throat, and scratched the back of his neck awkwardly.

"Oh...nothing! You?." You lied. You wondered if he knew you were actually looking for him?

"I was looking for the guys. Okuyasu grabbed Koichi and pulled him off somewhere, said they 'had to take a leak' but they weren't in the boys' rooms...," He trailed off. "Hey, I'm sorry...I know Okuyasu told you I was going to ask you out. I really was but, after he told me he let it slip I kinda got nervous and I...backed out."

"Oh, it's fine, Josuke! It's not like I was planning on it or anything...," You lied, again. "Just for the record, I would've said yes."

A opaque blush spread across his face, and he glanced away toward the wall, trying to make it less noticable. "Oh, great! Haha, that's good then..."

"Mhm," You hummed, biting your lip. You noticed, once you started talking to him, all your fear went away. You weren't nervous anymore. "So...do you wanna dance?."

"O-Oh! I should um...probably find Okuyasu and Koichi...who know's what they're getting into!." He laughed awkwardly.

"Are you just saying that because youre nervous?~." You teased, poking his chest.

"...Maybe..." He pouted his cheeks out.

"You're adorable, Higashikata!," You grabbed him by the hand. "Now, Dance with me, idiot!."

He yelped as you tugged him by the arm to the middle of the dance floor.

As it went on, you could tell he was having fun, as a visible smile placed brightly across his face. You were having fun, too....

Butterflies arose in your stomach as a soft rhymed song emitted from the speakers'. A slow song.

He hesitantly snaked his arms around your waist, and you placed yours around his neck.

"I-I don't really know how to do this." You admitted, biting your lip slightly.

"It's okay, me neither." A somber smile placed across his face.

You both moved in unison, soft on your feet. The way the lights shown down above him set the seen, oh how romantic. You had always thought Josuke Higashikata was attractive-

But now, he was completely irresistible.

"I-I think I wanna kiss you?." His statement sounded like more of a question, nervousness poised in his demeanor; his voice cracked as he spoke.

"I don't think I would mind..." You raised a hand from around his neck to his cheekbone. You caressed him softly and, he leaned in closer. You could've sworn, how he looked at you, his longing gaze almost made you melt.

Your lips intertwined.

It was gentle and sincere, but it didn't last very long.

You'd just ask for more, later.
