''That will be 9 dollars and 29 cents,'' said the cashier, putting the items into a plastic bag. Casiell pulled out some money from her handbag and gave it to the cashier trying her best not to make any eye contact. "Get it together Cas," She thought as she stared at the cashier's hands while he counted the money, "It's just a trip to the convenience store. Buy what you want and go home. Simple." Casiell hated going outside to do anything, especially going to the convenience store to buy food. Doing that meant having to communicate with people and that is something she dreaded having to do. "Here's your change, "the cashier said, giving the money to Casiell. She took it without looking up at the cashier, grabbed her items and rushed out of the convenience store. She took a deep breath of relief for making it through that. "Alright. That's done. Gotta head back home. Also simple." She said to herself as she walked down the street.
She reached the building where she lived and headed to her apartment. The building was quite new, and so were the apartments. The walls were freshly painted since they re-painted them every year. She stopped in front of her apartment door and stared at it, thinking about how there would only be emptiness behind it.
She didn't understand why she expected there to be anything there. She had been alone all her life, with only her inner thoughts to accompany her. For some reason she didn't feel satisfied with that. She felt incomplete. Empty. Like something was missing. It was like she needed the last piece of a puzzel to complete her and make her content. She didn't know where to find it though. Thoughts raced through her head. She remembered the horrors of her life as memories flooded back into her mind. The screaming, the terrified faces of people around her. Her horrifying truth. She jerked herself back into reality. Sighing, she grazed the apartment door with her fingers, then unknowingly knocked on it. She lived alone, so nobody would answer it, but she longed for something that she couldn't understand. She didn't expect an answer, so she reached into her pockets and fumbled for her keys. As she was searching, she heard the doorknob turn and looked at the door as it swayed open to reveal a boy, about Casiell's age, standing there.
Casiell's eyes widened and she took a step back in fear. The confused boy stared at her. "W...what are you doing in my apartment!" Casiell exclaimed nervously. She reached into her back pocket, pulled out her keys and pointed them towards the boy in defense."Woah, easy there, I think there's been a mistake....this is my apartment." Said the boy, a bit confused. Casiell looked at the apartment number and realized it was 201, which was not hers. Then she looked towards the door next to the apartment and saw the number 202. "oh...that is my apartment...." she said, embarrassed by her mistake. Just great. An embarrassing encounter with her neighbor is not what she wanted. She'd been trying so hard not to have to talk to anyone. She had failed. "No, it's okay, " said the boy who was surprised that someone actually lived next door in 202. He'd thought it was empty considering he never saw anyone come out of it. Now he was a bit more intrigued.
Casiell looked at the boy and took his features in. He was surprisingly good looking, with red hair and red eyes. She'd never seen someone with such eye colour before. He was lean and tall, and was wearing a black shirt and black jeans. Casiell caught herself staring at him and turned a bit red. She hurried towards her apartment door, trying not to make things more awkward and embarrassing. "Sorry," she said without looking at the boy, and stepped into her apartment. She closed the door with a slam and all that was left behind was silence, and a very confused yet intrigued boy.
