"couldn't have done it without you"

_______

"I CAN'T BELIEVE HE HUGGED YOU," Taehyung pouted as he trailed behind Jimin, who was making his way into the kitchen to fix his daughter a snack. He didn't want to ruin her supper, but she'd been complaining that she was hungry, so he didn't see the harm in making her something small before he sent her off. And of course, Taehyung was here too, having gotten over his cold, and wanting to spend some time with Jae. He had missed her. He was also disappointed to learn that he missed out on a lot during this week's support group meeting. The biggest being he couldn't see Jungkook.

Taehyung had been head over heels for Jungkook the moment he met him, and even though Taehyung had a bad habit of falling in love with almost everyone he met, Jimin could sense that this time, something was different. Taehyung was extroverted while also being naturally flirty and friendly. Sometimes he wasn't even aware that he might be flirting with someone, because of how nice he is upon meeting people. He was like an overly friendly puppy, as Jae put it, and yeah, Taehyung kinda is. But sometimes, his friendliness had a tendency to make some people feel uncomfortable, and when Jimin first brought him to help volunteer with Namjoon, he had to keep reminding him that everyone here was pretty much introverted and that they might shy away from him. It was hard for him at first, Taehyung just wanted to say hi to everyone and get to them, and Jimin had to keep holding him back, and introducing him himself to the others, while informing them that Taehyung was just excited to meet them, and that he wasn't trying to intentionally make them uncomfortable. Some warmed up to him easier than others (like Hoseok, who despite his depression, was very quick to become friends with him because of their personalities) and others took time. Like Jungkook.

Jimin had to keep Taehyung from practically scaring the poor boy. Jungkook was extremely shy, so when Taehyung bounded over to him to start a conversation, the poor boy looked as if he was going to have a panic attack. Jungkook didn't know what to do with thim, and sent a pleading look Jimin's way - a desperate cry for help, to which the older immediately intervened.

Taehyung didn't understand what he had done wrong to endure a Jimin scolding as the older dragged him off to the coat room. He was just trying to make friends, he didn't realize he'd made him uncomfortable. "Jungkook doesn't talk Tae," Jimin said.

"Was it something that I said?" Taehyung had asked in confusion, and Jimin shook his head.

"No Taehyung, Jungkook doesn't talk because he's a mute. He went through something really traumatic, and because of that, he just stopped talking."

"Oh...well...I still want to be his friend," Taehyung had stated, before making his way back over to where Jungkook was. Jimin had tried to stop him, but once Taehyung made up his mind, it was impossible to change. Jimin was ready to pull Taehyung away again, but stopped once he saw what he was doing. Taehyung had crouched down in front of Jungkook, making him seem smaller than the younger. "I didn't know that you don't talk," Taehyung began. "I'm sorry if I made you uncomfortable, that wasn't my intention. I would really like to be your friend, could we try again?"

Three years had passed since that day, and Taehyung and Jungkook had grown incredibly close. He had succeeded in becoming Jungkook's friend, and now Taehyung was focused on getting Jungkook to speak. He had not been able to, but that didn't stop him from trying. It wasn't that Taehyung wanted to force Jungkook into speaking, Taehyung wanted to be the person Jungkook could talk to if he ever needed to. He wanted to be a safe space for Jungkook. And in some ways, he was. Jungkook too, had become fond of Taehyung, although he never said it. It was obvious to Jimin, who spent most of his time observing the people at the meetings. Jungkook smiled a lot whenever Taehyung was around, he would laugh quietly at his jokes, and just seemed to be at ease whenever Taehyung was close to him.
