[ Chapter Two: Monkey Bars & Lollipops ]

AGE: 6

IT WAS A BRIGHT DAY IN THE PARK, and that was the reason why Helen had brought her two daughters to the park. There weren't that many people hanging around but that didn't stop Mia from allowing others to go before her on the slide. Mary had decided to play at the monkey bars by herself.

After a while playing by herself, Mary had gotten bored so she decided to do something different that day. Her legs were wrapped around the green bar tightly as she hung herself upside down. Her hair fell downward as well and she smiled at the sight of it, outstretching her hand to touch it.

"Whatcha doin'?" An unfamiliar voice asked Mary, surprising her since she didn't see the person coming her way

"Nothing, just hanging," Mary responded to the boy in front of her before she burst into giggles at her words

"I can see, but why." The boy said to her intrigued as he rushed to the side to climb up the monkey bars as well

"I'm bored." Mary simply stated to him and he nodded his head, grinning when he finally reached her

"Hi bored, I'm Michael." The boy introduced herself to her causing her to burst into giggles once more

"I'm Rosemarie, but you can call me Mary." Mary introduced herself to him as she watched him copy her style so he was upside as well

"Rosemarie with the 'ie' or with the 'y'?" Michael asked her curiously while he turned his head to face her

"Rosemarie with the 'ie' but Mary with the 'y'." Mary informed him and Michael's head tilted a bit to the side

"Why Mary with the 'y'?" Michael asked her another question and her face flushed before she parted her lips to speak

"The first day in Kindergarten I thought that Rosemarie was spelled with the 'y' but it turned out it wasn't. I didn't know it was spelled with the 'e' until my Mommy and my teacher sat me down after class about a week later since my teacher got confused with my name." Mary explained her best to Michael who nodded his head

"But why didn't you just go by Mary with the 'ie' though?" Michael asked her and she turned her head to look at him

"I didn't want to, I wanted to do things my way." Mary stubbornly replied to Michael with a slight glare at his direction

"That's okay, I think it's cool. Do you want a lollipop? I have blueberry, cherry, and strawberry and grape." Michael informed her and her eyes widened at the last mention

"I hate grape, I'll take the blueberry though," Mary said to her new friend who opened his cargo short pocket only for some lollipops to fall but Michael caught some in his hands

"Luckily for you, I saved the blueberry," Michael told her with a wide grin as he offered her the blueberry lollipop

"Thanks, did you save the one that you wanted?" Mary asked him nervously while she bit her lower lip

"Yeah, the cherry one," Michael stated to her with a grin as he showed her the lollipop and they grinned widely at one another
