The clouds lit up as the sun went down, the tips of each illuminating with the warm colours of sunset. The fading light reflecting on the golden orbs of a wolf, sitting on the roof. The muffled landing of another presence on the roof caught the wolf's ears' attention but she paid no mind. She knew who it was anyway. The light of sunset faded and the comfort of stars and the bright moon appeared. This is what she loved.
"You just gonna stand there or what?" The wolf says, turning her head to face the other on the roof. The fox's mouth tugged up into a grin, almost mischievously, but her eyes showed no ill intent. She joined the brunette wolf, swinging her legs over the edge, almost in challenge of the wolf's own crossed ones. They sat in silence, two twins together. Two twins at peace. The fox broke the silence.
"You always loved the stars, from the day I met you." The wolf smiled wistfully at shadow's remark and continued to stare into the black-blue sky.
"And that's what ended us..." the wolf whispered back. The fox looked at her twin, her sister, with a curious glance. She knew her sister had to get something off of her chest. She waited patiently, knowing the other needed no prompt. If you push her, she won't say another word. The wolf finally sighed and continued.
"That night, the night we died, I had found another spot to gaze at the stars. It was beautiful. It was on the riverbank and you could see the moon reflecting in it. There was a small bridge. It was so peaceful, I just had to bring you." At that, Wolfix started to tear up.
"And because of that," she gets through sobs. "We died. You died. I died." Shadow tilted her head away from the starry night sky and looked at her twin. She had tears running down her cheeks, red and raw. And through squinted eyes, the golden eyes of her sister shimmered and glowed in the moonlight through a thick layer of tears. It was beautiful and terrible. Shadow starred at her crying sister, no expression evident on her features. She shifted closer to the crying wolf, and took her tear-stained cheeks in her hands. Wolfix nuzzled into the familiar touch, tears still streaming down her face and now onto Shadow's palms.
"Hey, look at me." Shadow said. Wolfix looked up into her powerful turquoise eyes that shined and glowed even in day light.
"What you did was not your fault, if anything it's BEN's fault for kidnapping us." She says with a smile, implying no bitterness toward the elf.
"But I'm not sad that he did. We could've lived out our lives, lonely, never accepted. Freaks. But instead we get to live again. We have a proper family that cares for us and so much more we couldn't have had if we didn't die that night." Wolfix stares into the turquoise orbs of her sister, now illuminated with happiness and comfort. She tears her eyes away from them and her glance immediately go to her sister's arms. The black arms. She slowly reached out to touch the black demon skin on her sister's shoulders, displayed from the loose singlet she was wearing. Shadow glanced at her own scars, the black skin that was a constant reminder of what she had gone through. She took off the hand tracing her skin and held it in her hand.
"I don't regret dying. Yes, I may have gotten a few scars but I met Jess and I would not trade her for the world or time. I'm so glad I died because otherwise, I'm sure I wouldn't of met her."
"You got tortured-"
"To find more people for our family, the family I would give anything for. Yes, I have some problems up here but is that a problem? No. Cause everyone here has and can take care of me when I need it. You too. I had insomnia, but you and Jess helped me. I'm cured and happy, granted that I don't go a day without falling asleep with her." Shadow smiled at her own statement.
Wolfix looked back at her sister with a new spark, looked at her twin with changed emotion. A small smile grew on the wolf's face and she leaned into her twin's chest. Sister and sister, the wolf twins, hugging each other under the star light of the night they watched.
"One day, you'll take me to that spot. The spot with the riverbank and the bridge. The spot where we can watch the stars together again." Shadow whispered into Wolfix's ear, her eyes shining with happiness and the excitement of seeing the place she died for.
