The teens did the job of watching as Professor Oak walked up to the table where the pokéballs were kept. Both were anxious about choosing their Pokémon partner. The starter they choose for themselves will be with them for their lifetime and not just this journey. An unbreakable and special bond which is only formed with your starter or first Pokémon would be formed between them.

The two of them watched as the renowned professor tapped the center buttons on each of the pokéballs to release the creatures confined inside.

From the leftmost pokéball came out a small, quadruped Pokémon having blue-green skin with darker patches. He had red eyes with white pupils and pointed ear-like structures on the top of his head. The most significant thing visible was a green plant bulb on his back. The bulb does the task of providing him with nutrients and energy by the process of photosynthesis.

Next up was a light blue turtle with his long tail curled inward. His body was encased in a tough shell that forms and hardens after birth. The shell is brown on the top, pale yellow in the bottom and had thick white ridges between two halves.

Last one was a bipedal, reptilian Pokémon with primarily orange body and blue eyes. His underside from chest down is of cream color. A fire burns constantly on the tip of his slender tail and is said to be blazing since the birth of this Pokémon.

The Pokémon upon being released from the capsules first looked at their guardian Professor Oak before directing their gaze to their soon-to-be trainers. Professor Oak cleared his throat before speaking up.

"I had these three Pokémon for a long time but it is now the time for them to get a trainer." He then pointed to the Pokémon with the bulb on his back before saying. "This is Bulbasaur, a loyal grass-type Pokémon. Next up is Squirtle, who is Water-type. He is cocky but obedient and is easy to get along with. Last one is Charmander, Fire-type Pokémon. He is bit hard to raise."

The two boys simply listened to the explanation which Professor Oak provided to them.

"You can use your Pokédexes to find out more information about them." He suggested.

"Bulbasaur, the Seed Pokémon. A strange seed was planted on its back at birth. The plant sprouts and grows with this Pokémon."

"Squirtle, the Tiny Turtle Pokémon. After birth its back swells and hardens into a shell. It can squirt out water at vigorous force."

"Charmander, the Lizard Pokémon. Obviously prefers hot places. When it rains, steam is said to spout from the tip of its tail."

"So Red whom are you going to pick from these three?" Professor Oak asked and moved his hands behind him.

"What? Why does he get to pick first?" Blue said, his voice indicating sudden surprise.

Red smirked and walked up to the starter Pokémon who were now looking curiously at him. They were observing the two trainers who would be picking up one of them and they will be able to see the outside world along with them. No longer being stuck up in the same lab which they have been seeing since they hatched from their respective eggs.

Meanwhile Red was thinking hard about whom he was going to pick as his starter. He bowed down at their level to get a closer look while still coming up with a decision. He also noticed that Blue was giving him a displeased look as the latter didn't get to pick first but ignored it.

I think I'll go with Charmander. Even if it's a challenge I will take it and will become the best Pokémon Trainer in the world. With his mind made up, he smiled at the Charmander before patting his head.

"Char!" Charmander cried out, knowing that he has been selected by this trainer.

"Professor, I will take Charmander." Red declared, standing up straight. Charmander stood beside his new trainer.
