"Alexine, kailangan natin mag-usap."
Sa isang café malapit sa school nagkita sina Rainier at Alexine. Hindi sila pumasok sa kanilang klase that day. Inabot ni Rainier ang isang liham.
"I am sorry, Alexine. I can't do this."
'What does he mean?' Alexine asked herself.
"Rain, what are you trying to say?"
"I want you to forget about me, Alexine."
She was shocked. She could not comprehend what he was saying. For almost twenty minutes, they had an intense discussion inside the café.
"Bakit, Rain? What's wrong? Is it me?"
"Alam mong hindi ikaw..."
"Kung hindi ako ang dahilan, ano? Sino?"
"Please, Alexine. Walang dahilan."
"Puwede ba 'yun, walang dahilan?"
"Just be honest, Rainier. You can just tell me. Is it about you migrating? We can make LDR work."
"How did you..."
Rainier was also surprised when Alexine knew about it—and that she was even willing to make a long-distance relationship work.
"It doesn't matter how I knew about it. Am I a fool to you?"
"Ayaw na kitang saktan ulit, Alexine. Ayaw kitang paasahin."
"It's what you are doing right now to me, Rain."
"Hahayaan mo na lang akong mag-isip at manghula."
"So it's someone else? Bakit ayaw mong sabihin sa akin, Rain?"
"There is no one."
"I just think that we can't be together like this anymore."
"You fell out of love?"
Teary-eyed, Alexine stared at him for a while, waiting for his reply.
But Rainier remained quiet.
He couldn't tell her the truth. He couldn't tell her that every decision he was making felt like he was choosing between the future his family wanted for him and the life he had built with her.
Alexine did her best to hold back her tears.
She waited.
Still, he said nothing.

Her voice was shaking, but her words were firm.
