The next day was filled with excitement, mostly about the party. Pretty much everyone at Willowfield campus was invited. Probably one of the only perks of living in a small town.
Alexa and I had decided to wear our matching blue t-shirt dresses and white sneakers. We loved matching our outfits at every opportunity we got, and this party was the perfect one.
The only thing dampening our spirits was having to convince, which translated as borderline begging and blackmailing, Scott to come too. He wasn't a fan of socializing, especially when it came to large groups, however, not having him at the party wouldn't be much fun for Alexa and I.
"You can't let us go all by ourselves." Alexa had now resorted to giving him her irresistible puppy dog eyes.
I knew he'd give in eventually. She'd successfully used that tactic on me countless times as well. No one could say no to those.
When I got home after campus, I could hear little squeaks inside, I could feel even more excitement building up. Was that what I thought it was?
I pushed the front door open and rushed inside. I was greeted by a sight of the most adorable golden retriever I had ever laid eyes on, covered in a red check blanket. My heart melted at the sight of him.
"Mom! Mom!" I called out in excitement. "Where did he come from?"
"Wellvwhen I went out earlier, to stock up on groceries, this little guy was left in a box outside the store."
"So you brought him home?" my excitement and disbelief were evident.
"Yeah, the poor guy looks like he's in dire need of affection."
"I'm so glad you brought him home. " I beamed.
The owner has put a post up on our community group chat to enquire if anyone is looking for him." she said, bringing me back to reality. "But he agreed we could keep him if no one responds."
"You're amazing, mom." I said as I scooped the puppy in my arms and took him to my room.
I tapped on the teapot for Xypher to appear.
"I can't believe you did it." I said in disbelief. "How did you get my mom, who refused to get me another puppy when I literally begged, to suddenly bring this little guy home?"
"I can't take all the credit. I mean have you seen the little guy." I was surprised, expecting him to take all the credit.
"His charm is irresistible." I agreed. "This is by far the best gift possible."
"Now if you'll excuse me, I have a party to get ready for."
"You be safe tonight, Robyn." the concern in his tone baffled me.
"Okay dad." I teased. He was the definition of over protective.
"I mean it."
"I know, I'm always safe." not exactly true, but he didn't have to know that.
"And besides, Alexa and Scott will be there too." I added to reassure him, seeing that he wasn't budging.
That did the trick and he disappeared.
Alexa came over at 5pm so we could get ready together, before Scott picked us up. He was our designated driver since he wasn't a fan of alcohol.
Alexa was immediately taken by our newest little charmer, Chippy. He was so perfectly tiny, and all he did was snuggle up and hit snooze mode. He was by far the best thing I could have wished for.
After I was dressed, Alexa immediately got to work with her makeup kit. For the life of me, I couldn't do anything beyond basic mascara and lipstick, so I left it to the self-proclaimed pro.
When she was done, I was amazed by the reflection staring back at me. She nailed the winged eyeliner, smokey eyes and red lipstick, which enhanced both of our features, without being over the top, perfectly.
Hair was my task, I started adding curls to her gorgeous long red locks and then I added some curls to my own hair as well. It framed our done up faces perfectly. We were ready to make our rockstar entrance at this party.
"You'll look stunning." mom said, as she eyed us approvingly.
"Don't hesitate to give us a call if you need anything." she added.
I smiled in response.
"Chippy's still snuggled up on my bed. Maybe you can check on him in a bit."
"Sure, honey. " she beamed.
Scott's jaw literally dropped when he arrived to pick us up.
"Wow. You guys look amazing." he said in awe.
"You don't look too bad yourself." Alexa teased, eyeing him over approvingly, causing him to blush.
I always suspected she had a thing for him. And obviously Alexa was a catch, they should just hook up already. He was dressed in light blue jeans and a blue shirt. Yes, we took this matching thing very seriously.
"Robyn?... Robyn... Hi." Jordan's words came out in intervals as he greeted us at the door.
He was staring me up and down in a rather obvious manner. Almost making me regret coming to the party in the first place. I really hadn't thought this through. I was just eager to party, and he would obviously interpret this as a sign of interest.
"Can we come in?" Alexa asked, saving me from his staring fest.
"Sure." he waved us in.
"How have you been?" he asked.
He was about to reach for my hand, when someone inside called out to him, and I was beyond relieved when he finally left us alone.
"Don't worry, we'll be by your side the whole time." Alexa had to scream over the music to assure me.
"I'm sure it's nothing. He's harmless." I screamed back.
The look on her face, as she was staring at something behind me, told me I was incredibly mistaken.
