A few weeks after the dreadful ritual, Alexa and Scott took me to Treat Yourself bakery, as a way to cheer me up.
I was in a state of blissful ignorance. A part of me knew Xypher was gone, another part of me wanted to pretend none of it had happened. If only I could pretend the pain and heartache wasn't real either.
I tried to be as present in the moment as I possibly could with Alexa and Scott, not wanting to dampen their happy spirits with my newfound friend: grief.
I was absentmindedly returning from the ladies room, when I bumped into someone. I muttered a 'sorry' in response without even bothering to look up.
"No worries, love."
I was already a few feet away when my mind registered the familiar British accent and the tone of the person that I'd bumped into. It had to be him! I stopped dead in my tracks, spinning around to look at him.
"Xypher?" I asked in disbelief, knowing it was possible for me to be hallucinating. There were countless of times that I thought I'd heard Xypher's voice. Or his knock on my room door. Only later realizing that I'd imagined the whole thing.
"In the flesh." he said with a wink.
I blushed while taking in his handsome features. The piercing green eyes, the chiseled face. It was him alright.
I immediately leaped towards him, wrapping my arms around him as tightly as I possibly could. Partly to make sure he was real, and mostly because I'd missed him so much.
"I missed you too, love." he said, almost as if he were reading my thoughts.
"How?" I asked in awe. "Not that I'm complaining." I added.
"The dark souls worked some of their magic." he said with a wide grin.
"I'm glad they did."
"Me too. I guess the universe was on our side this time." he said, as he crashed his lips against mine.
"Guys, this is Xypher." I announced to Alexa and Scott, as we got to the table.
"Nice to meet you." Scott said, reaching out for a handshake.
Alexa raised an eyebrow at me, but I simply smiled in response.
"It's a pleasure to finally meet you indeed." she gushed, as we sat down.
