I stood there, in the same position, stunned for several minutes, my mind was still processing all the information he had just divulged. "So does this mean that Jordan's sudden interest in me isn't real? It's because of a little mishap?" I found myself asking. It's like I needed to confirm what he blurted out.
"Sadly, those aren't his true feelings" he was trying to stare at everything other than me.
"So if the feelings that he has confessed aren't for me, then are those actually his feelings for Alexa?" I wondered. "Is it really Alexa that he's in love with?"
The last thing I wanted was to get in the way of some sort of soulmate connection.
"Well it's his feelings for Alexa and a little more than that." he looked uncertain. "It's enhanced."
"What do you mean when you say enhanced?... That does explain why he's been acting so strangely lately... Is there a way to stop or reverse things?" I bombarded him with all those questions at once, my mind was exploding. I couldn't contain my rampant thoughts any longer.
"Well it's magnified almost ten times over. I'm afraid I'm still looking for a way to set things right."
"How did you do this exactly?"
"I have connections." was all he offered in response.
"That's rather vague coming from someone that caused this whole mess. " I accused him.
"You're the reason Alexa got that rash. You're the reason why Jordan had an accident. You're the reason Jordan has been professing his undying love and affection for me, every opportunity he gets. Yet you're still insistent on keeping me out of the loop? I believe I have a right to know." I demanded, in all honesty I was done with being kept in the dark, I needed answers and it was high time he gave them to me.
"I assure you, it's only for your own safety, love." the affection in his voice touched something deep in my soul and stopped my desire to go on with my rant.
"What do you mean? What am I being kept safe from exactly?" I was still as confused as ever.
"Robyn, you must understand that there are certain things you are better off not knowing." I was entranced by his soft tone.
"How could I be better off not knowing something that concerns me? " I demanded.
"Has this happened before?" I changed the subject, seeing that I got no response to my previous question.
"No it hasn't. Which is why I've been struggling with undoing it." he admitted.
"Can't you ask these connections of yours? They seem powerful after all." I pointed out.
"Unfortunately, everything with the connections I have comes at a cost. A very high one, might I add."
"At what cost?" I figured I rather pull out all the information I could possibly get from him while his guard was down.
"It's always a favor for a favor when you make those kinds of deals. It won't end well." he had a sad and distant look on his face.
"A favor as big as this, especially admitting that I'd messed up, there would be a major price to pay." he added, probably sensing how confused I was.
Before I could interrogate him with any further questions, my phone beeped.
It was a text from Jordan. It read 'Today was fun, I can't wait to see you again.' I internally cringed.
A few seconds later it beeped again. This text read 'I miss you.'
"What's wrong? " Xypher asked, probably sensing the horrified expression on my face.
"It's just a text from Jordan. " I explained.
"A rather romantic one." I groaned.
"Is there nothing we can do about this?" I questioned.
"I thought the accident would slow things down a little. " I was beyond surprised by that statement.
"So the accident was to slow things down? Not because you were concerned about my safety?" I asked, just piecing things together.
"Killing two birds with one stone really." he said with a sheepish grin.
"I've tried that, among other things." he continued as I was still pondering over his last statement.
"What if I make a request for it to stop?" I wondered.
"You mean that would be one of the favors you'd ask for?" the glint in his eye told me I was onto something.
"Yeah, like I ask for you to do that for me. And then I'd do a favor in return to even in out." my voice was loud and chirpy, I was so excited by what seemed like a really brilliant idea.
"And you're prepared to do a favor for me in return?" he asked again, the surprise evident in his tone.
"You know you'd be helping with my mess right?" he reminded me.
"I'm aware. Right now I'd do anything to get Jordan out of my hair." I admitted. "Sometimes there's a huge difference between crushing on someone and actually getting to know them. I learned that the hard way. "
For a few moments, there was nothing but silence as he stared into my eyes. I felt like he was penetrating my soul with the intensity of his gaze.
"So do we have a deal?" I asked, mostly because I really needed to break our intense eye lock.
"Oh yes we do, sweetheart." he said, giving me an evil smirk.
"What's the favor I owe you?" the smirk on his face piqued my interest even more, I had a feeling I was about to regret this.
"Something simple. I just want a kiss." if it wasn't for the seriousness of his tone, I'd think he was joking.
"You want a kiss?" I asked, to confirm that my ears weren't deceiving me.
"Yes love, the first one was pretty amazing." he said with a wink; his response leaving my cheeks redder than a tomato.
