"What is it?" I asked, bracing myself for whatever it was.
"You'll see for yourself shortly." he said with a smile.
"You just love building suspense, don't you?" I called him out, not holding anything back.
"Of course, it's fun watching you squirm." he said with a wink.
I blushed, my cheeks turning red on their own accord. I was moderately annoyed by my girly side kicking in all of a sudden.
"You could just tell me, you know." I pointed out. "Things are much simpler that way."
"Where's the fun in that though?" he teased.
"Xypher, tell me! " I whined. However, the amused look on his face told me he wasn't planning on heeding my request.
He opened the car door at a leisurely pace, he made sure to take his own sweet time with stretching out his legs before jumping out, torturing me with suspense in the process. Just when I thought he was done with his dramatic display, he lifted up his arms and stretched that out as well. Then he yawned and started turning his body in different angles. My patience was really running on thin ice at the moment.
"I know you're probably decades old, but could you please hurry up?" I asked with an exasperated sigh, flailing my hands in the process. He wasn't the only dramatic one here.
"Someone's eager." he teased.
"I'm getting old and grey just waiting for you." I exclaimed, with a sigh.
He laughed in response.
"Well, what are you waiting for?" I urged.
"You know patience is a virtue, love."
I let out a groan. Was this guy for real? How long was it really taking him to just tell me what the plan was? We were just wasting time that could be used more productively in my opinion.
"Does it look like I care?" I retorted with a raised eyebrow. "Just tell me already." I ordered, not attempting to hide my annoyance.
"Okay, okay. " he said, holding up his hands in surrender.
I gave a little victorious smirk. A little whining and coaxing and I always got my way.
"Why are you smiling to yourself?" he asked, looking confused.
"No need for you to concern yourself." I said with a fake smile.
He let out a deep breath. "Are you ready?" he questioned.
"I was born ready." I declared with a proud smile, puffing my chest out a little for dramatic effect.
His eyes immediately darted down to my chest. I felt the heat rise to my cheeks.
"Keep it in your pants." I said with a wink, enjoying the effect I was having on him.
"Your wish is my command." I let out a little giggle as those words came out of his mouth.
"I'm going to show you." he said.
This statement caused my mind to do little summersaults. Get your mind out of the gutter,Robyn. He had to be referring to the plan, right? I mean he couldn't possibly be hinting at anything. He wasn't that bold. Or was he?
He cleared his throat to get my attention. "I'm going to show you how we plan on getting in." he clarified.
Surprisingly, I felt a mild sense of disappointment at those words. I simply nodded in response.
I watched intently as he put his hands in his pockets. I had to admit he was an expert at building suspense. When he took them out, he was holding two simple shiny silver...rings? What was he planning on doing with those? What could we possibly use the rings for?
"That's your major plan?" I asked, with a perplexed look on my face.
"Wait until you see what they're for." he said enthusiastically.
Where was this enthusiasm coming from? Did he realize he was just holding rings in his hand. It's not like we could perform miracles with those.
"What can they do exactly?" I was genuinely curious, and also adamant that there wasn't much this could help with, in terms of collecting his remains. He'd obviously need to come up with a more substantial plan.
He held one of the rings up towards the sky. He stood in silence for a few minutes. Almost as if he were saying a little prayer.
Was he praying for a better plan, perhaps? I laughed to myself as the thought crossed my mind.
He turned to face me as he slipped the ring onto his finger. Then nothing. He just disappeared. He was right in front of me and then he wasn't.
I was stunned for a good few minutes. I looked around in awe. Where was he? Is that what the ring can do? Cause one to disappear? Where did he disappear to though? All I could see was the open space around me. Just fields and trees. No sign of Xypher.
"Xypher?" I called out.
"Where are you?"
"I'm right here, love." he said. I could hear him, however I couldn't see him.
"I don't see you though." I pointed out, I felt somewhat like a crazy person, talking to myself when clearly no one was around me.
"This is the power the ring holds." he explained.
"It makes you disappear." I said, still very much in awe.
"It's an invisibility cloak. This is how the dark souls are helping us." I could hear the excitement in his voice.
"How is this possible?" I wondered out loud.
"They cast a spell on the ring so that we wouldn't be visible. Brilliant isn't it?" he said as he was starting to reappear in front of me. Holding the rings his hands, in the same position he was in initially.
"Indeed." I agreed, still wrapping my head around what I just witnessed. He was right in front of me the whole time. He hadn't moved.
"This is the plan. This is how we collect my remains." he said proudly as he handed me one of the rings.
This time I didn't question what the ring was for. I grasped it excitedly.
"This is the perfect plan." I agreed with his previous statement. I have to admit I was excited by the plan. I mean who wouldn't want to be invisible?
