Lyric

I was laying on my bedroom floor, reading a book when a slight knock came at my door. "Who is it?" I called, without bothering to turn around.
"It's me, Ric." Called my dad from the other side of the door.
"Oh, come in." I said, as I placed the book mark in my book and turned around to face my dad who had just entered the room. I ran a hand cautiously through my hair, before smiling tightly. "Yes?" I asked, dragging out the word. Hello, I wanted to get back to my reading.
"Honey, I-" he shook his head, "I don't know how to sugar coat this but-" he sighed again as he slumped onto my bed.
"What is it?" I prodded.
"It's just that..."

I was starting to get worried as I watched my dad's stiff position and droopy eyes. He was trying to tell me something he knew I wouldn't like to hear. That was only just making me curious as I sighed heavily and said, "Dad..."
"We're moving back to Rock Valley, Lyric." He said, looking at me in the eye for a second before he added, "It's final." Seeing me open my mouth to argue again he shook his head, "No point, Hun. We're moving back to our old house." He said. Our old house?! Why not any other house?!
"What about mum?!" I complained, "You can't live with her! She was the reason you moved away!" I cried. It was true. My mum was the reason we moved away feom Rock Valley after she and my dad divorced three years ago.
"And she's also the reason we're moving back. She's travelling and if the house has no residents then it's going to be sold, I'm not risking that."

He seemed so... So calm about this it was eating me out from the inside. I wouldn't risk the house getting lost either, it was like a mansion seeing as my mother had a big singing career, but the ungrateful shitheaded ass wasn't grateful for the fact that if it wasn't for my dad, she wouldn't be where she was today.
"What about Ava?!" I asked, bewildered. "What does she think about this?"

Ava was my younger sister, two years younger even though she always acted more mature. She dressed herself up and went out with friends, that were girls may I add. "She doesn't mind." He replied.
"More like she doesn't have a choice!" I yelled, "I-I cant dad. I- please. I can't go back." I barely whispered before standing up and heading for the door.

I couldn't read anymore now because I knew that I wouldn't focus and would think about this all the while, rather I decided I was going to go out and forget about this all together. In times like these, I wished Adam was here. He would be able to persuade dad, he'd be able to make dad see logic. But-

"Ric where are you going?" Called my dad.
"Out!" I called back, grabbing my leather jacket and heading out to my motorcycle.
"Be back before dinner, Lyric!" He called, using my full name to emphasize his seriousness.

I walked up and patted the dual-sport motorcycle. It was a BMW R1200GST and it was my prized possesion. Pulling on the helmet and slipping on my fingerless leather gloves, I got on the bike and drove off and just before I was out of earshot I heard my dad call, "Be careful on that thing, Ric!"

My jacket flapped in the air causing the air to rush through my thin shirt and I smiled. I enjoyed the thrill of riding a motorbike and I believe I would have never got into it if it weren't for Adam. I smiled at the memory of him but my heart clenched at the same time. Just thinking his name brought pain and joy all at once and I closed my eyes and nearly lost balance before I opened them and steadied myself again. I couldn't believe it, I, Lyric Oakley was moving back to the town of nightmares. Where I was a such a girly girl, (a girly girl wannabe to be exact) where I cried over guys and tried to hang out with friends. Where I so weird and unwanted and chubby. Where I tried my hardest to fit in. Now I'm different, I'm skinnier, I'm not interested in guys, I don't cry over them, fall for them or check them out. Scratch that I check them out but still, now I'm a freaking Tomboy! I always was but I tried to deny it then, but here at Green Lake they accepted me for who I was.
