I hated to admit, but I was drained. I hated to admit, but I needed help. What I also needed to admit was I needed Milo.

No not the drink you dimwit. The friend.

Milo, the dark skinned boy who understood me so well. The boy who stood up for me one too many times. The boy I was currently speed dialling.

He picked up on the second ring, his voice seemingly ecstatic and excited. Wait thats the same thing right?

"Ric! Wassup?!" He practically sung, and I smiled at his cheery tone, at hearing his voice and at realising that no matter where we were, he'd always be there for me.

"Milo." I smiled, even though I knew he couldn't here me.

"I'm here baby. The one and only."

"Good to know my best friend still misses me." I said, running a hand through my dark curls. Thinking of how I'd start the topic. It was no big deal right?

Who was I kidding he'd choke whoever telepathically if he knew.

"Of course I do. Why wouldn't I?" He said, pointing out the obvious. But then again, I thought Amber and I were besties.

"I don't know." I shrugged, not bothering to mention Amber, I preferred a carefree Milo. I didn't need his pity. "How's Green Lake without me?" I asked, trying to make conversation.

"Terrible. Now I have no one to give me girly advice." He laughed. I could imagine him feigning hurt as he clutched his heart.

"Now, now, dear." I chuckled, "Mummy promises to make it up to you." I said, smiling weakly.

"Ric." He said, slowly.

"Yeah?" I asked, cautiously. Milo was very attentive and he noticed the difference in my behaviour all the time, but for once I kinda loved him for it, because even though I wanted to pretend this didn't happen to me, it had and I need a non-judgemental person to hear me out and help me.

"Tell me wassup." He said, coaxing me to open up.

"Milo, I have something I need to tell you." I finally said after a long pause. How would I tell him? What would he say? How would he react?

"Ric." He said, matter of factly.

"Okay. Okay. Milo, I-" I said, glancing out the window to see Axel currently on his phone while in bed, I couldn't risk it. I needed some privacy because this was unfortunately big and I didn't want anyone but Milo to know.

"Lyric don't make me strangle you through the phone." He said impatiently and I couldn't help but laugh.

"Hold on." I told him. "I need to make it outside so that I can have some privacy."

"Is it that bad?" He asked, worry evident in his voice. I hesitated.

"Yes. Yes Milo, it is that bad."

I left him on the line as I put on a pair of skinny jeans and a red hoodie and made my way down stairs.

My dad was seated on the kitchen island stool reading a newspaper and Ava was nowhere to be seen.

"Dad, I'm going out for a walk." I told him.

He gazed up at me, scrutinising my attire before shrugging. "Be careful." He said and I nodded, grabbing my shoes and walking out the door. For once I was glad he was oblivious to what was going on in my life. But I knew deep down that he'd know soon enough.
