'Ava!' Kamran's voice snapped me out of my concentration as I tried to work consistently to get my list of jobs done for Joanne.
'What?' I snapped, giving him a soft frown. 'You know how busy and stressed I am, Kam!'
'I am trying to show you a picture of Caden Clark!' Kamran cried, wiggling his phone at me with an unimpressed stare. 'Don't you want to see?'
'I don't really care!' I replied, shaking my head as I turned back to my screen. 'I have to have these files done by ten!'
'Suit yourself,' he mumbled, spinning back around in his chair.
The lift in front of us pinged and the doors opened as a small group of staff stepped out, all mildly chatting to each other.
'Good morning.' I glanced up from my screen and smiled immediately as I was greeted by Alex Mitchell, one of the quality technicians who analysed and tested the materials used and also inspected the final products. Besides Kam, he was probably the only other person who I actually liked in the department. He was polite and well-mannered and always made a conscious effort to give me a friendly greeting in the morning.
'Morning Alex,' I replied, feeling myself blushing before quickly brushing it off.
I could not deny that he was a very cute guy. With his light brown hair casually thrown back, his fair, freckled skin and baby blue eyes, he was attractive and it made him all the more so that he was a friendly guy too.
'Morning Alex,' Kamran teased, as Alex disappeared through the doors with the rest of the group.
'Pissoff!' I cried, laughing as I threw a pencil at him.
'You two could totally be boning each other but all you do is say good morning to each other and nothing more,' Kamran laughed.
'Okay, first of all, shut the hell up,' I replied, giving him an unimpressed look. 'Secondly, I'm not the kind of girl who just bones anyone and thirdly...it's not like that.'
'It's not like what?' Kamran asked.
'It's just professional and friendly,' I told him. 'He says good morning to us everyday, that just means he is a nice guy, not that he bloody fancies me.'
'Correction, he says good morning to you, not us,' Kamran replied. 'You blush like mad every time too.'
'Leave me alone,' I groaned.
'This is why I'm here, A!' he chuckled. 'I will continue to push and encourage you to let your guards down until you do it! I mean, come on, we've worked together so long and you've only ever come out for a drink with me twice!'
'That's because I don't really drink, Kam, and you know that,' I replied.
'But when you do, you're a hoot!' he cried, leaning over and nudging my arm. 'That night in Lily's bar you would have won that karaoke medal if you hadn't dashed out the door with embarrassment from vomiting on the dance floor.'
