'Kam, I'm here, where are you?' I spoke into my phone as I glanced around outside the entrance of the venue where the gala was being held. My dress was already itching me a little and I kept feeling the need to pull it down lower even though it wasn't possible to do so. The night of the gala had finally arrived after a quick and quiet rest of the week at VC and I was actually very excited to be here.

'I'm right by the...oh, I can see you!' I quickly looked around until I spotted a waving Kam, hopping up and down on the spot with a glowing smile. I hung up my phone and paced up the steps towards him where he stood in the entrance, gasping at his extremely handsome tuxedo.

'You look so good!' I cried.

'Oh my god, A, that dress!' Kam gaped, placing a dramatic palm over his mouth. 'You look stunning!'

'Thanks,' I giggled. I did feel very pretty in it, as uncomfortable as it felt. I'd decided to pull my hair back into a ponytail. With my hair being very long, a high ponytail always suited me well and I'd curled it too to give it a little more of a dressy look.

We headed inside, arm in arm, and I couldn't help but look around at the hundreds of beautifully dressed individuals. Everyone was adorned with expensive looking jewellery and wore garments made from material that just looked beyond unaffordable to me. I spotted a few faces I recognised from work here and there, but no one in particular.

Moving over to the bar, Kam and I took a glass of champagne each from a tray that was placed out and began to explore the venue. This main hall was where the bar was situated and there were tables laid out where people could socialise and have a drink. In the next room over, there were mannequins placed around the room showcasing the latest autumn collection designs from VC and finally, the final room along from this one was a quiet lounge with some light classical music and was dimly-lit. There was a bar too and there were several people sat on the comfortable chesterfield sofas and armchairs spread throughout the room.

'God, what a lifestyle to live,' Kam mumbled.

'Something we'll only ever dream of, Kam,' I sighed, before giggling softly. 'We can pretend for the night though.'

'Oh, for sure,' he replied, giggling back as we left the lounge with our arms tightly linked. 'We are most certainly going to make the most of this open bar.'

'I don't think so,' I chuckled.

'Oh, live a little, A,' he teased, as we re-entered the main hall and Kam pulled me past the bar again as he downed the last of his champagne, set the glass down and grabbed another. He gave me a glance and I rolled my eyes and threw back the last of my own, accepting another glass from him.

'Oh, look,' he said, pointing outwards. 'There's Alicia.'

'Your best friend,' I joked.

'She wishes!' he scoffed.
