After discussing everything that had happened in Caden's office with Kam, he'd decided to focus on the one small part of Caden calling me cute over everything else. The rest of the day was spent with Kam repeatedly emphasising his excitement that our handsome new boss thought I was cute. I had been flattered when he'd said it to me, but the second time around, it just made me feel a little patronised. I didn't want him to think of me as cute, I wanted him to think of me as a strong, professional woman who was good at her job, but I guess I just had to prove that to him now.

I was glad when the day was done and I was even gladder to return home to find Keira was out and thankfully, she hadn't left much mess in the apartment. Keira had always been just fine to live with but since losing her job, she had gotten a little lazy and that's when the slacking around the apartment began. I hoped that now she was to be employed again it would mean she'd go back to tidying up after herself too.

The next day, I went into work feeling a lot more cheerful. My outfits always reflected my mood and today I'd decided to go with a baby pink dress with the matching cardigan. It was Kam's favourite outfit and whenever he saw me arrive to work in it, he knew I was going to be in a good mood.

After receiving a pile of files from Joanne, I got right to work and my day was moving by at a quick pace as I completed my daily tasks and chatted with Kam.

Just before lunch, the lift opened up and Alex entered, the expression on his face a little upturned. I had wondered why I hadn't seen him come in first thing, and immediately stood up to talk to him.

'Alex, is everything okay?' I asked. 'You seem upset.'

'Oh, it's just that prick, Caden,' he sighed. 'I didn't need to come in until eleven because I had to have a meeting with him over the bloody error that someone else made yesterday.'

'We heard about that,' I said, giving him a sympathetic look. 'Did Caden blame you for it?'

'Not exactly,' he replied. 'I know who was to blame but my supervisor said he only remembers me being around at the time it was passed so of course, I was sent up for a meeting with Caden and he asked me what happened.'

'So you explained to him that it wasn't your fault?' I questioned.

'No.' He exhaled heavily and shook his head. 'I couldn't bring myself to snitch on the other guy, he's my friend.'

'You took the blame!' I cried, my mouth hanging open in shock.

'It'll be fine,' Alex told me, with a small smile. 'After calling me useless and lazy and telling me exactly how much the company had lost due to the error, he gave me a written warning and told me next time it happened I'd be gone so...I suppose I'm lucky I still have my job.'

'Wow, Alex, you should never have taken the blame,' I told him. 'You could have lost your job.'

'Yeah, but the guy who actually messed up has a family with little children so...how could I risk letting him lose his job when that would be so much worse than if I did?' He shrugged as he spoke and let out an adorable chuckle. He was such a nice person.
