Although I'd thought of every excuse possible not to return to work the next day, there I was sat at my desk chair replying to email after email, answering phone call after phone call and dealing with a ton of work from Joanne. It was still morning and I'd brought in a bagel from home for breakfast which still lay in the wrapper on my desk. I was unable to eat due to the anxiousness I was feeling about possibly seeing Caden today.

I knew he would check that I was in, but I didn't know whether this would be a phone call to HR or a trip down to the fourth floor himself. If it were to be the latter, I had no idea how I would react after what we did the day before. It was the second time I'd caved for him and now, even just the very thought of him as I sat behind my desk was making me want to dash right up to his office and rip his clothes off. I also felt extremely nervous in case he was still in that strange mood he had been in with me when he'd left my apartment the day before; not mad according to him, but whatever it had been, it had had me confused.

'Earth to Ava!' I jumped as Kam's voice pulled me from my thoughts of Caden.

'Sorry,' I murmured, as I tried to take a bite of my bagel. 'What were you saying?'

'I was telling you about how I'm trying to go vegan but I don't think you heard a word I said,' he grumbled, as he clicked away at his computer. 'What is with you this morning? You're away with the fairies.'

Oh nothing, Kam, I just can't stop thinking about Caden's naked, sweaty body all over mine!

I was also extremely worried incase my anxiety made me start sweating and caused the layers of foundation on my neck to fade, revealing the purple marks that still lay underneath them.

'Sorry, I just...drifted off into a daydream,' I said, with a nervous chuckle. 'So, vegan huh?'

'Yeah, I'm ready to start leading a healthier, happier and more planet-friendly lifestyle,' Kam said, revealing his bright teeth with a proud grin. 'As much as my mother will have a breakdown when I tell her.'

'So, does that include cutting out alcohol too?' I asked. 'Or does this healthier lifestyle begin after your birthday this week?'

'Cutting out alcohol?' he questioned, with a puzzled frown. 'Who mentioned that?'

'So not a completely healthier lifestyle I see,' I laughed, as I scanned through the email I'd just received from Joanne about chasing up an order.

'Speaking of my birthday,' Kam said. 'Are you still up for it on Saturday?'

'Of course!' I exclaimed. 'I wouldn't miss it!'

Just as I finished speaking, my desk phone rang and I picked up the receiver and activated my fake-happy, professional phone voice. 'Good morning, Victor Clark Fashion, you're through to Ava, how can I help?'

'Good morning, love.' With a loud bang, the receiver slid from my hand and hit the desk, causing me to fumble frantically as I quickly tried to grab it and Kam stared on at me with a mortified expression. The second I had heard Caden's voice on the other end, my fingers seemed to lose all grip and I was suddenly shaky. I quickly recovered and returned the phone to my ear where Caden was still speaking.
'Umm...hello? Ava?'
