I'd never felt more pissed off at someone than I did in that moment that Caden told his brother I was his secretary. First of all, I wasn't his secretary, I was a secretary within the company owned by his father that he currently ran. Secondly, how idiotic of him to tell his brother that the girl sitting there in his shirt the morning after sleeping with him was someone he worked with, someone who worked at their father's company!

I gave him wide eyes and it was clear that he picked up on my annoyance as he quickly brushed it off with his usual carefree grin. 'It's alright, Ava, Caleb doesn't care about shit like that.'

I was lost for words but even if I'd managed to find the right thing to say in this fucked up situation, I was pretty sure my voice would come out in a mortified squeak.

'He's right, I'm used to it from him,' Caleb laughed, and that made me feel even worse. How many VC workers had been sat here at this island? I thought they weren't allowed to stay the night. I'd held back on bringing up his previous conquests plenty times because it wasn't my business, but now I truly felt like it was slowly becoming more acceptable for me to bring this topic up.

'Oh, so I'm not the first girl from work to have breakfast cooked for them and meet your brother the morning after then?' I asked, trying to keep my voice confident and casual. Caden seemed taken aback by my question; clearly he hadn't expected me to raise such a private subject.

'You absolutely are the first,' Caden replied. 'I told you, I never let anyone stay the night.'

'Sure,' I murmured, quietly, returning to my breakfast.

'Caleb didn't specifically mean girls from work, he just meant girls in general,' Caden continued, and I could tell by his face that he knew he was digging a deeper hole for himself.

'Yeah, I just meant I'm used to always seeing Cade with different girls and sometimes around his place but not all of the time.' Caleb tried to save himself but it was only making me feel more uncomfortable in this setting. 'Sorry, I didn't mean to even say any of that at all; I'm such a dick.'

'That's okay,' I replied, quietly.

'Obviously you have stayed the night and you're here having breakfast so clearly this is like a serious thing going on between you two,' Caleb continued, making both Caden and I turn his way quickly. 'I didn't mean to say such an inappropriate thing in front of you; I didn't mean any disrespect.'

'Whoa, whoa, little bro, slow down,' Caden said, loudly to talk over his brother. 'It's not like that man.'

'Yeah, this isn't a serious thing at all,' I told Caleb.

'Oh...well...sorry again,' Caleb said.

'Maybe we just change the subject,' Caden laughed. 'How was your ski trip?'

'Same old shit,' Caleb replied, with a shrug, as he took a seat at the island with one stool separating us. 'How is being the big boss?'

'Same old shit,' Caden chuckled.
