.... It was the next day, late in the afternoon, and the city had dissolved into a state of total war. Ryu's rescuers were hiding inside the sewers, and now, Li-Yang had the undesirable task of breaking the bad news to the group that Ryu had disserted them. "Why did Ryu abandon us? This is because he didn't want to be the Avatar, isn't it? Aang d***-it!" Maku cursed. Ryu's mother Rikona and his little brother Ryo were distraught as well. "He could've been one awesome hero, but now he's decided to possum-chicken out on us!" grumbled Ryo, "You're not my hero anymore, Cowartar" Ryo muttered bitterly. "I should've reasoned with him and maybe he would've stayed..." said Rikona. Kara was dealing with her own despair upon hearing that Ryu had broken-up with her. "How dare he! Why did he break-up with me? I understand he's taking this very hard—but it doesn't give him any right to abandon me or his friends and family" Kara cried. "Kara, I'm just as p***ed-off as you are! If he were here I would have knocked some sense into that coward!" Maku was furious. Li-Yang, alone, was the voice of reason, "My friends--do not give up hope, stay calm—Ryu will return to us very soon...." Li-Yang wisely told them, as she closed her eyes in meditation. "I should've talked to him. Maybe he would've listened" Rikona repeated softly. Ryo's frustration boiled over, "Why did you leave us big bro? Because you're a cowardly Avatar, that's why!" Ryo's shout rang throughout the sewer. "Ryo, don't you mean the New Hero?" Avatar Ryu Honoo announced as he suddenly appeared outside the entranceway of the sewer. Ryu stood in silhouette, with the sunlight framing him from behind. He looked and sounded victorious. "Ryu, big bro!" shouted Ryo, "You're back!" Ryo was jubilant as he ran into his older brother's arms. Kara, however, walked toward her former boyfriend with a furious expression on her face. "Ryu! How dare you break up with me! After all we went through getting together and....and...." Ryu interrupted her speech as he reached out and wrapped his girlfriend in a bear hug. He silenced her protest with a fervent kiss. "Sorry about that, darling, I wasn't acting like a true Avatar- will you please forgive me?" Ryu kindly asked her. Kara smiled, "Yes, but when this mess is over you owe me a nice dinner date and awesome action mover--I pick the place" the pair looked into one another's eyes. "Okay—you got it-- it's a date then" Ryu and Kara agreed. "Ahhh.' Isn't Ryu supposed to be the reincarnation of your Gran-Gran Korra?" Ryo was confused. "Just try not to think about it...." whispered Maku. "Ryu, son, why did you leave us?" Rikona sounded angry. "I know you're scared, but the truth is, young man—you're going to be the Avatar and bring back balance to the world, and you're going to have to like it mister!" Ryu hung his head, "You are right mother--- and I shall fulfill my duty with honor!" Ryu proudly asserted. "And one more thing I've been meaning to say, you are a good mother to me, and I'm mighty thankful for it!" Rikona had tears in her eyes upon hearing this from her son. "I knew you'd come back Avatar Ryu Honoo!" Li-Yang opened her eyes and smiled at him. Ryu grinned back, "I sense that you and Maku are now a couple, is that correct?" "That's absolutely right Avatar Honoo" Maku spoke unhesitatingly. "I never lost faith in you, Ryu." "But didn't you say you'd like to knock some sense into Ryu?" Ryo blurted. "Ouch!" Maku punched Ryo's shoulder. "Like I said--- I never lost faith in Ryu" affirmed Maku. Ryu shrugged, "But anyways--we need to form a plan to stop Fang and put an end to this Grand Turf War once and for all!" Kara griped, "How are we going to do that? You're not even a fully experienced Avatar yet, you need to train in the other elements first before we can do anything else" "But Kara cous; training to that extent could take years, and currently, Ryu only knows Fire Bending." reminded Maku. "Look, friends, you need not worry about this; for you see, I'm already a fully realized Avatar." Ryu calmly told them. "Ryu, you must be joking? You couldn't have trained in the other 3 elements yet!" cried Kara. Ryu looked around at the group, "Well then, I'll have to show you, follow me outside...." Ryu waved his hand as he ushered the group of friends outside the sewer.
