The night was windy and cold. And strangely eerie, too. Some families were resting in their houses passing out candy to the little children that came knocking upon their doors for the much needed sweets.
Others were out and about giggling on the wet, cold cobbled streets in their halloween costumes, the tree leaves crunching beneath their hurried steps, not knowing what was about to take place at a small cottage house just down the street.
Not knowing that two little one year old toddlers would be orphaned, and three parental figures would be gone on that same night. That same dreadful night.
Artemis Scamander - Black was restless as she stared out the window looking over the empty wet streets near her home. She often wondered how the Potters were doing.
Oh, how the dandy witch wished she venture on delightful strolls with her childhood best friend, Lily Evans-Potter, or head on over to the serene park nearby to hang around with their dear children and loving husbands. To have much needed fun and silly conversations and forget about these dark times they were currently chained too unwillingly.
But alas, that would never happen for she didn't know what was about to take place. What the future held. Time was ticking. All the sand was starting to gather at the bottom of the hourglass.
Laying down on the couch behind Artemis was none other than her husband, Sirius Black, and their adored daughter, Carina. As she gazed out the window, her intricate wand held tightly in her hand as she fiddled with it, she listened in onto her husband and child. A faint smile coming to rest on her small lips. "Alright now, stardust. Repeat after me 'Padfoot.'" Sirius said to his daughter. He was watching her quite intensely as she held eye contact with him. Their eyes very much alike clashing with one another. Her small black dog plush held in her small, and chubby baby hands.
Little Carina Black shifted slightly from atop her seat on her father's stomach. Her wide gray eyes never leaving her father's for one second. With her head tilted to the side she mumbled out, "Pa-", Artemis bit her lip cheekily, bracing herself for the debacle that was about to occur any minute now.
Sirius watched in anticipation, his eyes widening as he grinned. "Yes! Come on!" He cheered her on.
"Prongs." She babbled.
Artemis smiling, shook her head knowing her mischievous daughter would utter the alias of their audacious, grand best friend who had been trying all his hardest in the past few weeks to get his niece— as he so insists on her calling her, even though there was little to no blood relation between them whatsoever, to speak his nickname instead. She turned away from the window to glance at her family. Playful satisfaction bubbling inside of her from seeing her husband's utterly devastated face.
Oh, the pure betrayal.
"Oh, come on!" He shrieked, causing Carina to smile and let out a small baby laugh, upon hearing it Artemis smiled even more. Pure adoration and love filling her hazel gaze. Her worries disappearing for a second. Only a mere second.
