An hour later, they both came out into the living room...laughing.

"Thank you, Kay." He showed her to the front door.

"I'll see you on Thursday, Cade." She gave him a million-watt smile and shook her booty a little more than she should as she walked out of the apartment.

Cade? She's on a first name basis with him? I had been basically living with him and we were not on a first name basis. This man was so frustrating!

Before I could stop myself, I blurted out...

"You seem to get along well with your new therapist."

 It sounded jealous...and I was.

He must heard the jealousy in my voice because he gave me his wicked "caught you" smile. His blue eyes were dark, like the ocean at night,

"Are you jealous, Ms. Smith?" He turned to look at me.

"Not at all." I hoped I sounded convincing.

"Ms. Smith, I would never get involved with you. You're an alien. You weren't even born on Earth. I could never be with someone like you." His smile was gone and his eyes blazed with anger again.

"Technically, Mr. Chase, you are the alien. I was born on this planet." I kept my voice strong. If he wanted to play silly games, he picked the wrong opponent.

He blinked at me, realizing that I was right. He was an alien, not me.

"Well played, Ms. Smith. It doesn't chance the fact that I have no interest in you. I look forward to the day when you leave." He grumbled and made his way into the kitchen.

I followed him.

"I made meatloaf." I said pointing to a covered plate on the counter.

The ball was in his court.

He turned and looked at me. I put a hand on my hip and dared him to eat the food I made.

"Do you know where you got the meat from?" He asked looking at the plate in disgust.

"A cow? I'm not sure I understand, Mr. Chase."

"I'm a vegetarian."

No wonder he wouldn't eat anything I made!

"Noted." I said.

I put the plate in the fridge. I stumbled a few steps and knew I was going to fall. I braced myself for impact with the floor. In shock, I realized I had not fallen and I was now in Cade's arms. He had his crutch propped up against the counter and he had both his arms around me. I could see the pain on his face.

I stood up as quickly as I could.

"Are you ok?!" I asked frantically. He should not be lifting with his injured ribs and he shouldn't be putting weight on his leg.

"I'm fine." He leaned against the counter. His face was pale and his pain was evident.

Shit.

"I'm so sorry..."

"I said, I'm fine, Ms. Smith."

He grabbed an apple and went back to his room.

He wasn't due for his pain medication for another four hours but I knew he was hurting from catching me.

I went to the front door and knocked. One of the guards opened the door and stepped inside.

"Mr. Chase needs an extra dose of pain medication. He injured himself in the kitchen. He's ok but he is having break-through pain. Please let the doctor know immediately." I said.
