Chapter 13

"Emily, I'm sorry. I'm mortified. My father likes to think he can control whoever he wants."

"Well, he can't control me." I insisted. I knew if the President wanted to control my life he very well could.

"No. He can't." Cade agreed.

He hobbled over.

I looked up into his blue eyes and felt sadness. Even if there was something between us, I could never be sure how we both truly felt. Was it all the time spent with each other or was it true feelings? It didn't matter. Cade had no intentions of being with an alien.

"I'm sorry, Cade. I have to leave. Please understand." I begged.

"Emily...please, don't let my father fuck this up...of course you can leave but..." He started.

"But?" I asked.

"I'd still like to see you. My father's not entirely wrong. I wanted nothing to do with this planet until I met you. As far as I was concerned, I was fine living the rest of my life in that room. You gave me hope that I might be able to handle living on an alien planet. I don't want that to end."

Cade stood just a few inches away from me. Damn, he was a good-looking man.

"I-I don't..." I started but before I could finish, I was in Cade's arms. His very strong arms.

He took my face in his hand and I looked up at him.

We looked at each other for what felt like hours before his lips came down on mine. I slid my hand up his chest and he pulled me deeper into the kiss.

His tongue parted my lips and his mouth consumed my soul. It was even more passionate than the kiss in the promenade.

When he pulled away, I was left breathless and wanting.

"Emily...I'm sorry. I just..." He mumbled and backed away.

"Cade?"

"I shouldn't have..."

I walked over to where he was and put my hand behind his neck. I pulled his lips to mine again and he put a hand on the small of my back and pulled me closer to his body. His incredibly toned body.

The kiss became frantic and before I made any other crazy decisions, I pulled away.

"Please don't leave me alone here, Emily." Cade was pleading with me.

"Your father is going to let you leave whenever you want now, as long as the guards follow you from a safe distance."

"That's great!" He said but he still seemed sad.

"He gave me a day off too!"

"That's great, Emily. Really great." He tried to smile.

"Why aren't you happy, Cade? You have to realize that the guards are necessary?"

"It's not that."

"Then what is it?" I put my arms around his waist and hugged him.

I felt his arm go around me a few moments later.

"I don't want you to leave." He kissed the top of my head.

"Cade..."

"I don't want to be alone here. You're the only thing that makes any of this tolerable for me."

"Cade...I'll stay."

"Thank you, Emily."

The doctor showed up to give Cade his evening dose of painkillers and antibiotic. He was checking his vitals and looking at his injuries when I walked into the living room.
