Part 5

Alexandria’s POV

They were just staring at me like they wanted to murder me.

I knew who everybody was and I knew his mom was going to be the first to say something.

“Why is this stupid black bitch here?! Do NOT tell me that she is the girlfriend that you talk about so much?!

Of course his mother said it.

“Look mom, she is a really nice girl and-“

Before he could even finish, his dad cut him off.

“Son, you should be with your own kind not with this-this thing.”

This continued on for another hour. They called me many degrading names and some of his family tried to attack me.

I thought he was going to take me home as soon as they said something mean. Liar.

I never said anything or tried to attack them so I don’t understand why they ae doing it to me. Joshua never said anything either which was appalling because it was his family.

“Listen guys,” oh now he says something, “I know that you guys don’t like her, but she is such a nice girl. She is funny, beautiful, and smart. I just want you all and her to get along so with that being said lets go eat.”

He didn’t tell me that we were eating dinner with them.

“I want to go home”, I whispered to him.

“Please babe just do this for me. Maybe they’ll change their minds. Pretty pretty please.”

“You know what fine, but if something goes wrong, it’s your fault.”

He gave me a kiss on the cheek and thanked me.

Once everybody got their plates, we all sat down. There was a big awkward silence so Joshua said something.

“Hey Alex, how is the Bank of America job?”

“It’s fine.” (Alex is his nickname for Alexandria so he’s going to call her that from time to time)

“Okay. Hey mom did you know that Alexandria has two siblings? Just like me.”

She didn’t say anything, nobody did so then I said,

“Joshua I appreciate this, but I think I’m ready to go.”

“Okay. Just let me get them to leave first.”

After 45 minutes, everybody left he cried. I felt so bad because he really wanted his family to like me and they hated me.

“Joshua it’s okay that they don’t like me, they never have so I knew that was going to happen.”

“But I just want them to like you.”

I was just sitting there holding him in silence until he broke it and said,

“I love you.”

“….”

“Alex did you hear me. I said I love you.”

“I l-lov-“before I could finish he cut me off.

“You don’t have to say it back, I know it may be too soon.”

“I love you too Joshua.”

He just smiled and then kissed me.
