Before We Begin

She has been training years for this exact moment. She didn't know what she would do if she messes it up from the start.

Nagini arrived at the King's Cross station not less than 1 hour ago. Lucius and Narcissa Malfoy suggested coming later, but the girl didn't know if the Boy Who Lived was the punctual type or the lazy arse that slept in type, so she made her presence earlier.

Her patience was running thin until...Oh, there he is. The most famous Harry James Potter. Nagini could recognize from miles away that cursed scar on his forehead.

She took a closer look to him. Small, fragile almost, clothes that didn't fit his little body (most probably poor), jet black hair that couldn't stay neat, old glasses which meant he has an eye condition. This little human turned her world upside down?

Stating that Nagini was shocked and a bit disappointed was quite obvious. She expected more, taller and fierce or maybe someone that at least looked a bit more like a challenge. After all, he was the one who freed the Wizarding World and destroyed its biggest enemy.

Now now, she couldn't get distracted by unimportant details. She has a mission to accomplish. And may she gravely suffer if she doesn't start it well. It all depends on that.

Nagini noticed that Potter seemed lost and he didn't have any guardian near him, which means that he's all alone. This is what she would call a great heading start.

    Now or never.

The girl took a hold of her cart and started walking slowly, pretending to be lost just as the Potter boy. She then faked noticing him and his prominent white owl for the first time and headed over to him.

As she got closer, Potter turned his head in her direction and took a look at the girl's trolley and a light turned up in his mind. She also goes to Hogwarts. She can help him.

"I'm really sorry to disturb you", Nagini started once she was face to face with Potter, "but I noticed your owl which made me believe you also go to Hogwarts?" This was her first time interacting with people her age so she hoped that at the very least she sounded credible.

"Oh-um, yes-uh, I'm starting my first year actually." Potter responded back a bit shyly, yet with a relieved look on his face. He finally found someone that could show him the 9 3/4 platform.

"Fantastic! It is also my first year, but I can't seem to find the platform we are supposed to get on to, can you show me where it is?" Okay, this is going very well for now.

Harry's face then fell once again "Sorry, that is the exact reason why I'm stuck here. Apparently no one knows where it is. Someone even called me crazy for asking." He said the last part while smiling which made Nagini remember that in this kind of situations she is supposed to laugh, so she giggled a bit, to defuse the tension.

"Ok, no need to panic, we still have...10 minutes till the train leaves." Now this is just great. "sure we can find the platform till then." But what if they didn't found it? The train leaves without them, they don't go at Hogwarts anymore, mission failed miserably, they head home and never meet again? Nagini must preserve this from happening at all costs. Neither of the goddamned Malfoys thought to tell her where the goddamn barrier is located.

At that moment a group of people passed just behind them and they caught a few words of what they were saying."- packed with Muggles, of course-" This is her salvation!

"Harry come on, they must be wizards just like us!" Nagini took a hold of her trolley started heading to the big family.

"Yes, fin- hold on a second, how do you know my name?" good job Nagini, good job.

"Well from your scar of course! Everybody knows about it." She said effortlessly, even if she knew it was a close call.

"And you didn't react all excited about it? Not to sound cocky, is just that everyone starts jumping around when they see it or hear my name."

"I figured the last part myself. I am obviously impressed at what you managed to do all those years ago, but I don't think you are enjoying all the fame, am I right?" Impressed was a delicate way to describe it. Saying that it was atrocious and horrid was a better way to put it.

"Definitely, thank you I guess." He said slightly blushing.

They made their way closer to the wizarding family and as they approached they saw one of the oldest kids went right through the 9th and 10th platform. Of course. Being in a public environment made Nagini dumb, because now it seemed way too obvious how you can get to 9 3/4 platform. Potter on the other hand, he seemed like he saw magic for the first time. Maybe it actually was the first time.

"Fred, you next," the plump woman said.

"I'm not Fred, I'm George," said the boy. "Honestly, woman, you call yourself our mother? Can't you tell I'm George?"

    "Sorry, George, dear."

"Only joking, I am Fred," said the boy, and off he went. His twin called after him to hurry up, and he must have done so, because a second later, he had gone. These two made quite the impression on Nagini. Those are definitely the jokesters of their year.

"Excuse me," Potter said to the plump woman.

"Hello, children" she said. "First time at Hogwarts? Ron's new, too." Nagini took a quick glance at the boy their age. He was tall, thin, and gangling, with freckles, big hands and feet, and a long nose.

"Yes," said Potter. "The thing is -- the thing is, I don't know how to--" the other girl could swear that she is starting to lose her patience. All she wanted was to get as fast as possible to the train.

"How to get onto the platform?" the mother said kindly, and Potter nodded. Merlin bless her.

"Not to worry," she said. "All you have to do is walk straight at the barrier between platforms nine and ten. Don't stop and don't be scared you'll crash into it, that's very important. Best do it at a bit of a run if you're nervous. Go on, go now before Ron."

    "Er -- okay," said Potter.

Nagini and the boy looked at each other, nodded at the same time and started fasting their steps. They got closer and closer to the crashing moment. Potter was scared to not get in trouble. Nagini was thriving. But that scary part did not come. Instead, a scarlet steam engine was waiting next to a platform packed with people. A sign overhead said Hogwarts' Express, eleven o'clock. So they made it.

"Alright then, we better put our trunks away and find a compartment. I just hope they are not all full." Nagini told Potter.

"You want to sit with me?" the boy seemed confused that this girl wanted to still stay with him.

"Yes of course, I think we are both in need of a friend, especially if we are going to a place strange to us." The young witch said with a heartwarming smile which Potter accepted fully.

"Yeah I agree. Wait! I can't believe I didn't ask you what your name is."

Nagini extended her arm in order for him to shake it "Davina Montenegro. Nice to meet you, friend."

A/N: hi guys! so I wrote this chapter to show y'all how they met, but in the next chapter we will continue in fourth year because I think it will be boring to go through every part. If you will ever want to read about the first 3 years then please let me know and I'll think about it!
