He's Back

Chapter 2

I woke up in a hospital bed with a bandage around my side. “Oh you're wake, we had to give you some medicine to calm you down in the ambulance because you were having a emotional breakdown.” said the doctor. “Oh, um why do I have a bandage around my waist?” I said looking down at my side. “Your rib cage was broken from being kicked so much so we had to perform emergency surgery” he said. “Oh ok” I said. As the doctor was about to leave, it hit me,” what about my dad” I said. He stopped and turned around “your dad is in jail, you are not going to see him for a long time”. “Ok, when can I leave the hospital?” I asked. “When we can find a place for you to stay” he said. I rolled my eyes and laid back down. I really wanted to leave the hospital, I’ve only been here for a day and I’m already getting sick and tired of this place. I reached for the remote and started flipping through channels trying to find something good to watch but got interrupted by the nurse. “Excuse me, Ariel” she said softly. “yes” I said annoyed. “someone’s here to see you” and she walked away without me even telling her if they come in or not like what the hell? I went back to flipping through channels. I heard a knock at the door and his voice. “Can I come in?” he asked  “Yea” I said trying not to look him in the eyes. “Why didn’t you tell me “he said. "Cause you were going to treat me differently if I would have told you Luke" I said hiding under the covers of the hospital bed. Luke pulled the covers off and was trying to make me look at him. I struggled to push him away but he was too strong. “Luke leave me alone” I said still struggling to push him away. “No not until you look at me” he said still trying to get me to look at him. I finally gave up and looked at him. He stared at me and studied all the bruises on my face and just shook his head as if he was disappointed in me or something. “You should have told me that your dad was beating you, I could have done something” Luke said getting angry. I was going to go speak but nothing came out, it’s like if my words got stuck in my throat. “Tell me why didn’t you tell me this was happening” He said getting angrier by the second and knowing Luke, he will explode if i don’t answer him. He’s not going to hit me or anything, he will just yell at me until I answer him. “ANSWER ME!” Luke yells. “I COULDN’T TELL YOU BECAUSE MY DAD WOULD HAVE KILLED ME OK!!! LIKE HE DID TO GILIAN, NOW WOULD YOU WANTED THAT TO HAPPEN ME??” I said finally getting my voice back. Luke stayed shut. I started to cry, I never liked keeping things from Luke, it made feel like I was a bad girlfriend. He came over and cradled me in his arms, apologizing for yelling at me. “It’s ok, it’s because you care” I said wiping my tears. “Why do you have a bandage around your side” Luke said seeing my bandage. “My dad kicked me so much that he broke my rib cage” I said looking up at him. He shook his head and looked away. “Why didn’t you run away or something, you could have lived with me, away from all that torcher” he said trying to calm down. “I couldn’t” I said. “Why” he said. “Because the last time I tried to run away, he caught me and almost beat me half to death” I said shivering from the memory. “Who are you going to live with now?” he asked. “I don’t know and the hospital won’t let me leave until they find someone to take me in” I said. I thought about where they could put me. They could put me in foster care or in a beat up family like I was in and have the same shit happen to me or even worst, end up dead somewhere. As I was thinking, I didn’t notice Luke was talking to me. “Hello, babe” Luke said waving his hand in front of my face. “Oh, sorry, I zoned out, what did you say” I said. “I said that maybe my mom might let you move in with us, she always wanted a girl in the house and this might be her chance to have that” He said smiling at the thought of having me at his house everyday. “Um, where would I sleep because you and Jai have bunkbeds and then there’s your mom’s room and Beau’s room and there’s no more rooms” I asked. Not having to think for a second, I already knew Luke’s answer. “ You could sleep with me” He said with a huge grin on his face. “Dirty” I said laughing. “What??” he said laughing as well. “ I know what you’re thinking about” I said still laughing. “Well with you there, it might happened” he said. “Yea MIGHT” I said emphasizing the “might”. “Luke, don’t you have to ask your mom first” I said. “Oh yea I forgot” he said pulling out his phone. I instantly felt nervous about what she was going to say, a bunch of thoughts ran through my head. “What if she says no”. “Where would I go”. So many thoughts were running through my head that I forgot Luke was still in the room. “BABE SHE SAID YES!!” Luke yelled with excitement. I was so happy that I had no words. Luke picked me up bridal style and spun me around, forgetting that I had surgery on my side, I hissed in pain. “Sorry I forgot” he said. “It’s ok I forgot to until you picked me up” I said laughing. “So the doctor might be here in a hour or so, so you just want to hangout in here while he comes?” I said. “Sure, but what are we going to for an hour?” he asked. “Let’s watch a movie” I said. “Ok let’s watch a scary movie” He suggested. “Alright” I said. He came over to the bed and cuddled with me. We watched the movie Carrie, which wasn’t that scary. After the movie ended we decided just to talk about random things because the doctor still wasn’t here yet. We had nothing else to talk about so it was silent in the room, but not a awkward silence, a comfortable silence. “Ariel, do you trust me?” Luke said randomly. “Yea, you and Gilian were the only people I trust and my mom but I gave up on her when I thought she left” I said “Why do you ask?” I said confused. “I don’t know it was just a random question that popped in my head” he said. But I have a feeling that he was lying to me which shocked me because Luke never lies to me. “Luke why are you lying to me?” I asked. He looked at me with a shocked look. “How do you know I’m lying to you” He said. “Babe we have been going out for like 4 years, I know you like the back of my hand. Now tell me why are you lying to me” I said firmly. He sighed. “I lied because I feel like you’re hiding something from me that you’re extremely upset about” he said. “Why do you think that” I questioned. “ I don’t know there’s just something telling me that you’re hiding something from me” he said looking at me with a thinking face. I instantly got nervous because there is a huge secret that I have been keeping from Luke since I met him and I don’t think it’s time to tell him and I’m afraid that, if I tell him, he will leave me….forever and then I will truly have no one in my life. All these thoughts made my eyes start to tear up and I think Luke noticed because he pulled me into a bear hug which made me cry even harder. Just even thinking about losing Luke, made me want to die inside. Luke looked at me and wiped my tears away.”Sorry I didn’t mean to upset you” he said with a guilty look on his face. I instantly felt guilty for making him feel guilty. “No you didn’t upset me is that I have been keeping something from you and I feel like if i tell you what it is, you’re going to leave me” I said still crying. He grabbed my face and gave me a soft kiss. “Babe you need to understand that I will never leave you, no matter how ugly your problems are, I’m always here for you” he said, giving me another kiss. “Thanks babe, this is why I love you” I said smiling. “Ok the secret that I’ve been keeping from you is….” and that’s when the doctor came in. I sighed in annoyance. “Hello Dr.Ramos I wanted to tell you that I found a place to stay” I said trying to hide my annoyance. “Oh that’s wonderful all I need is a guardian’s signature and you’re all set to go” he said smiling. “Ok, Luke call your aunt and tell her to come since your mom is busy” I said “Alright”. He pulled out his phone and called his aunt. Soon his aunt came and we left the hospital.
