At the age of nine years old, Liam gets diagnosed with IED - Intermitant Explosive Disorder - by a specialist doctor who his dad used to work with at the hospital before they both unfortantly passed away; his dad from C-diff and the doctor from alcoholism, the news hits Liam pretty hard at the time, and by the end of the thirty minute long session staff were getting called into the room to help Liam's dad stop Liam from destorying the entire space.
Since then Scott's always telling him to use his anger and pent up rage against the opposing team players whenever playing lacrosse, as long as nobody ends up in hospital or in great pain, the same advise is also given by Coach when he learnt about the boys disorder, oddly enough he's very encouraging about it - reminding Liam that lacrosse is supposed to be a violent game after all - many team members love that Liam's always able to help them win against even the best teams, they'll invite him to parties or on roadtrips during school breaks, but after almost having a panic attack from being away from the people he's so familiar with his team mates, although they think he usually fakes his issues, decide it's best to leave him out of plans, unless they're celebratory dinners.
Twirling his new lacorsse stick from Stiles in between his steady hands, Liam rolls his shoulders and stretches the muscles out in his neck underneath the heavy gear causing him to sweat from the sweltering sun, positioned directly above him of course. Grabbing his helmet that lays by his feet, reflecting the sun directly in his eyes dazling Liam for a split second and leaving behind small green splotches within his vison, Liam heads over to the field - being careful not to slip on the slick grass from the early rainful - where Coach and the other congrogate before a match, Liam sucks in a breath and waits for the game to begin.
In the bleachers looking on out towards the wet, glissining field where the players were beginning to get in formation, Mason and Hayden sit on their coats out of reach from the wet planks, usually it's just Mason who'll stay behind to watch Liam train throughout the week after school, but today Hayden joins him too, her torn blue backpack hugging her chest as their eyes dart across the field, picking up familiar faces from people they knew in class and just around school in general.
"I've been thinking about what happened earlier at lunch today," pushing away strands of loose hair blowing across her face, Hayden glances at Mason cautiously. "Well after some careful consideration and self hatred for even thinking this, I've decided that maybe this Theo guy talking to Jessica too isn't so bad after all, maybe it'll do Liam good to realise that people in his life also have lives that don't revolve around him."
"Are you insane?" Mason almost yells out angrily. "Did you suddenly forget he gets attached easily and that if Theo left, even this early on would hurt him."
Almost choking on the oxygen in her own lungs, Hayden punches Mason's arm as she violently coughs, "I never said anything about anyone leaving, jesus Mason don't make something out of nothing! What I'm saying is Theo's still new to Liam giving them both a chance to work around...things. Jessica's always going to be a fan in Theo's eyes because she'll only ever use him for clout, you know it I know it and no doubt so does this guy, hopefully. Liam knows nothing about this guy other then his name and what his career is, maybe this is something he needs."
"I'm not saying you're wrong, but he has so much crap in his head already that I can't be sure Liam even knows what he wants," Mason replies more calmly this time. "He needs a break and a chance to be a normal teenager, don't you think?"
Returning her attention back to the training session in front of her, she struggles to contain her laughter as one of the players she knew tumbles over a fallen player who must've slipped on the wet grass, "I say we arrange for them to meet then, get to know each other and maybe become friends," biting down on her lip Hayden mumbles. "Don't you think it's about time he has something good in his life, other then us?"
As Liam trains on the field not paying attention to anyone else but the players and the ball, it gives Mason time to think over the idea Hayden suggested about getting Theo - who they're still overly cautious of - to meet Liam; he really doesn't give this girl enough praise he thinks to himself, not only is she pushing her own feelings aside for a boy that's broken her nose years ago, but she wants him to be happy, truly happy.
"Are you insane," Asks the younger boy as he stares at the brightly lit phone screen handed to him by Theo as they drive through town, buildings and other cars fly past them in a blur of colour. "Why did you agree to get coffee with her, and then help with her homework? Theo, bro I don't mean to be that person but she's clearly a clout chaser, what about this kid you mention the other day, what's their name...Lincon?"
"Corey" Theo warns bitterly, snatches his phone out of Corey's small hands, Theo focuses back on the road, trying to not get them killed. "Shut up man, I used to do your homework all the time," the truck jerks forward as Theo does an emerancy stop, in front of them is an upturned police car, flames burning closely near the petrol tank, "stay in the truck, I've got to see if anyone's inside, call 911 and ask for the fire station."
Wiping his face and hands clean with a wetwipe handed to him by Lydia, Liam also scrubs at the back of his neck where sweat leaks into his hair curling the ends, even though he could've showered like the rest of the guys in the locker room, Liam's never been a fan of standing naked around all the people he knows and will see on a daily basis, it makes him uncomfortable, "thanks Lyds."
"Donut shop or one of the coffee shops?" Lydia smiles, whilst keeping her eyes on the road she reaches into the glove compartment of her car. "Shove the dirty wetwipes in this, we can sort them out later."
Taking the crumpled Wal-Mart bag out of her hands and dropping the wipes inside, Liam yawnes tiredly in desperate need of caffiene, "coffee, coffee, coffee, coffee." Liam chimes with his hands tapping on the dashboard excitedly, with lacrosse training over and Coach feeling good about the teams amount of progress, Liam's mood lifts into a much happier one, it also helps that Lydia knew how to put a smile on the young boys face.
During the ride to the coffee shop Liam falls asleep with his head resting against the partially open passanger window, his legs are tucked into his chest and held firmly in place by his arms, for the first time in years, Liam looks at peace.
Walking into the coffee shop that smells of ground coffee beans, chocolate and freshed back biscuits, Lydia and Liam start to survey the menu above the tills, they both knew they'll choose their usual mocha with an extra shot of expresso, but they always feel better looking in case either of them decide on a change.
Lydia stands next to him watching intently whilst he ordered their drinks, it's a habit Lydia's trying to keep up with Liam, getting him to do basic things without freaking out or having a panic attack, her eyes shine fondly at him as he orders.
"So that's two large mochas with an extra shot of expresso and whipped cream, if you just stand over there," he indicates to the small line at the next till where a young man with brown hair stands looking painfully irritated, "and I'll get it right out to you."
Thanking the barrister for their coffees, Liam and Lydia go to head out with small grins on their faces when Liam accidently walks head on into someone sending him backwards and spilling the hot brown liquid everywhere, "fuck me I'm so....Theo."
