Hogwarts was beautiful. Rose, Marla, and Clara got into a boat on the edge of a dark lake.
"I wonder what house we'll be in."
Rose whispered. The lake water shined in the half-moon light.
"So pretty."
They climbed up the steps to the castle
And walked in the great doors.
"Welcome first years. I am Professor McGonagall, head of Gryffindor house. After you enter these doors, you will be sorted. The four houses are Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff,"
A Professor in long green robes started.
"And Slytherin. While at Hogwarts, your house will be like your family. Good deeds earn points, rule breaking deducts them. Shall we get started?"
The green robed Professor led the way into the Great Hall. Clara had heard stories about it, the enchanted ceiling, and the floating candles, but never imagined it to be so big.
"When I call your name, come up to be sorted."
Professor McGonagall said.
"Allson, Grace!"
The hat yelled
"Hufflepuff!"
"Black, Sirius!"
Clara watched as her brother walked up to the hat. He say there for a while, then the hat yelled,
"GRYFFINDOR!"
The room burst with murmurs. He was the first Black in. . .centuries, really, to be a Gryffindor. There had been a few Ravenclaws, but no Gryffindors. Clara frowned. She knew her brother wasn't going to be a Slytherin, but most of her family said the blood-traitors go to Gryffindor. Sirius just smiled and walked to the table.
"Black, Clara!"
She walked up. The hat covered her eyes.
"Ahhh, yes.... another Black family member. You don't want to be different from them, so Slytherin is calling you, but you do not belong there. No, far too fair for a house of cunning means. But Hufflepuff would do you no good, you have that one extra trait, the one extra that usually makes me send students to...."
"GRYFFINDOR!"
Clara lifted the hat off. The hall was silent. Another Black in Gryffindor. Just seemed wrong. Still, she walked down to the table. She took a deep breath and sat down. The hall was still pretty silent. Even the teachers were shocked.
"Well, then, Carmen, Anna!"
The hall resumed a silent hush asthe hat sat on her head.
"Ravenclaw!"
The Ravenclaw table clapped, and the sorting resumed. The lost continued. Tyler Rocksnen, Joanie Marts, and Claire Hemos got sorted into Ravenclaw. James Potter went to Gryffindor, with Rose, Marla,Remus Lupin, Lily Evans, and Peter Pettigrew. Alice (Clara didn't quite hear her last name), Taylor Bayton, Joshua Thompson, Maria Resley, and Damien Harther went to Hufflepuff. She didn't pay much attention to the Slytherins, she knew she should have gone there.
