dakota's p.o.v

after telling kenzie at lunch what happened and going through last period without even glancing at lucy because she was with nate and nicole, it was finally time for detention. i don't know if i'm happy i got detention or not. i mean it won't look good on my record but i get to spend time with lucy.

i go to my locker quickly to empty by backpack which has many books in it. i won't need these in detention. i say bye to kenzie to while i receive a flirty wave and a wink back. i laugh at her as she walks out of the building. i walk to my first period class.

"why hello dakota." his deep voice makes my ears ring i step into the class. "take a seat while we wait for lucy." he says and i walk by him, taking a seat in my regular desk i sit in during class. i stare at the door, waiting for lucy.

a few minutes later she walks in and looks directly at me. "take a seat ms. davis." mr. young says, or shall i say mr. old because he is not young. he's in his fifty's at least.

"yes sir." she says and takes her regular seat next to me. i put my basically empty backpack on the floor next to me and slouch in my seat. mr. young takes his cup of coffee in his hand (which don't ask me why he's still drinking coffee at two in the afternoon) and walks towards us.

"now girls, this is the first detention you've both had with me so this is a warning. no work, just sit here silently. i'll be printing some papers for tomorrow's class." he says taking a sip of his coffee and walking out of the room, leaving lucy and i alone.

"this idiot, making a big deal for us coming in late when all's we have to do is sit here and do nothing." lucy complains and i'm a little taken back from it. i've never heard her be harsh in anyway towards anyone.

"are you alright?" i ask her timidly and she doesn't look at me, she just keeps her eyes towards the front of the room.

"i'm fine." she says with no emotion heard or shown. "what are we supposed to do for an hour?" she asks, doing the same as me and slouching in her seat, crossing her arms. she's not alright.

"w-we can talk." i say hesitantly and she finally turns her head to me, a little smile growing on her face. she nods, turning her body towards me a little in her chair.

"okay." she says. "tell me.." she trails off, thinking in her head for a moment it looks like. "what's your favorite romantic movie?"

i laugh a little, happy that she acknowledged what i said to her this morning and is now asking me a question. i seemed to snap her out of her pissy mood.

"'the fault in our stars' is a classic." i tell her. "i absolutely love that movie. it gets me every time." i say and think of something. i reach in my backpack and take out the book of 'the fault in our stars'.

"no way!" she says loudly as i hand her the book to look at it. "i'll have to agree with you on that one. it is a great movie. however i've never read the book. have you started reading it yet?" she asks and i nod quickly.

"twice. i'm on my third time." i say and she laughs cutely, extending her arm to hand it back to me. i don't move. "do you want to read it?" i ask.

her eyes become incredibly soft as she looks at me after what i just asked her. she retracts her arm and looks back at the book. she flips through the pages and then pauses.

"you're in the middle of reading it though." she says and i swing my hand in the air, making a 'tsk' noise.

"did you not hear me? i said i read it twice already. you take it and read it." i insist and she smiles, a small blush creeping on her face.
