dakota's p.o.v
i watch closely, seeing his face turn red in anger and hers become pale in fear. does he yell at her? why is she scared of him?
"i'm late to my team meeting because of you! why the hell did you have to get detention?" he asks loudly, making her shake. i hide myself behind the wall, peaking out and making sure i can hear them.
"y-you were talking to me, that's why-"
"no!" he shouts at her. "it's because of your new gay friend, whatever her name is." he says, crossing his arms across his chest.
"her name is dakota. and why do you have to say 'gay friend'? what difference does it make if she's gay or not?" she asks wiping her face quickly. i smile a little, knowing she's standing up for me again.
"you know exactly why it makes a difference. you're mine!" he says to her, towering over her again. she keeps her head down, just nodding at him. "look at me."
she hesitantly looks up, meeting his eyes. she doesn't say anything, she just looks at him. i can't believe his. lucy doesn't deserve this. no one does.
"you're pathetic sometimes." he shakes his head and my eyes open wide. what the hell! "you can find your own ride home now."
he walks away from her and out of the school door. she slides down the wall, falling to the floor and covering her face. i walk around the wall and towards her. she doesn't notice me yet, not until i'm right in front of her.
"dakota?" she asks, wiping her eyes. her mascara is smudged all over her face. i kneel in front of her, nodding my head.
"i saw everything. are you okay?"i ask her. she sniffs her nose and tries to stop crying. but she fails. "is he always like that?"
she shakes her head, not looking at me. "please don't tell anyone." she grabs my hands into hers. i have butterflies from her touch.
"lucy he's screaming at you, he made you cry." i tell her. "that's not good." i shake my head at her. she starts crying again, letting go of my hands to cover her face. i look out the window quick to see kenzie is here.
"please dakota, don't say anything." she pleads, trying desperately to stop crying once again. i just shake my head, grabbing her hands.
"okay okay, i won't." i say. i stand up, pulling her up with me. she lifts her arms and wraps them around me, resting her head next to mine. i wrap my arms around her as i rub her back, trying to comfort her.
"i'm sorry." she chokes out and i bring my head back to look at her. i shake my head again, giving her a little smile.
"kenzie came to pick me up. she can bring you home too." i tell her and she sighs in relief.
"okay." she nods, pulling her arms away from me. she grabs her backpack off the floor and follows me out of the school doors.
we walk to kenzie's car and lucy gets in the back seat. i sit with her in the back so it's not awkward. "kenzie, can you bring lucy home please?" i ask her. she looks at me confused but i just give her wide eyes.
"yeah, sure." she says. lucy puts her seatbelt on as she sits in the middle, sniffing her nose.
"thank you kenzie." she says, leaning her head back. her backpack at her feet.
kenzie starts driving and as we pull out of the school parking lot, i feel something on my shoulder. i look over and see lucy leaning her head on my shoulder. oh my gosh, this is making me nervous!
i want to take her hand and hold it but i'm scared. what if she freaks out or she thinks of it at the wrong idea? i stare at her hand, over thinking a small thing like grabbing her hand. fuck it.
