dakota's p.o.v
"lucy davis and sam bennett." the teacher speaks, reading off of his list of partners. welp, there goes my only partner i wanted.
"and finally, dakota..i think you would be best paired with our new students. molly daze." he speaks in a calm voice, but nothing about that statement made me calm. i just give him a nod, my heart beating fast.
molly slowly turns herself around in her chair, locking eyes with me. she's still chewing her stupid gum. she smirks, her eyes wandering everywhere. "my house after school?" she asks.
"what if we don't need to work outside of school on this project?" i ask quietly, hearing the teacher clap his hands. we all turn our attention to him, except molly. she's still staring at me.
"we will start this project in class however you will need to meet with your partners after school to get it done. in class is not enough." he says and picks up a marker. he starts writing the concept of the project on the board.
i focus my eyes back on molly, seeing her eyes narrow at me. i sigh, nodding my head. "sure." i give in.
"sure what?" she asks, tilting her head. i did not miss this girl one bit.
"your house." is all i say. she nods, turning back to the front of the classroom to watch mr. young talk about the project.
i look at lucy, only to notice her giving molly a death stare. i try to get her attention by waving my hand in the air. it worked because she snaps out of her gaze at molly and looks at me. i give her a small smile, only to see her not smile back. she looks down at her desk. picking at her fingernails. ugh!
[lunch]
i walk into lunch, only to see lucy is already sitting down at our table. my usual spot is open, thank god. i walk over quickly, sitting down.
"hey kid." kenzie says smiling at me. i greet her and olivia quickly, turning my body to lucy.
"babe?" i ask gently, putting my hand on her face. she locks eyes with me, sighing heavily. "what's up?" i ask sweetly.
"molly is what's up." she says, the look on her face telling it all. she's pissed.
"if you don't want me going to her house for the project i won't but-"
"it's not just that, dakota." she cuts me off, hitting her hands on the table aggressively. i jump, closing my eyes for a moment. i hope this is all a dream. "she's everywhere." she says, looking away from me.
"i'm sorry." i say to her, rubbing my thumb on her cheek. "she means nothing to me. i have you." i assure her, making her blush lightly. she just nods, kissing me sweetly.
"hey." we all hear as we look up, seeing molly standing beside where olivia is sitting on the other side of the table. "mind if i sit?"
"i um.." but before i could continue, shes already joining us at the table by sitting down. i sigh quietly, looking at her. "why are you here?"
"i have nobody i know to sit with." she says. she's not eating lunch, she's just sitting there. i notice kenzie, olivia, and lucy all looking at her.
"i meant this school." i say, giving her a straight face. she almost laughs, twirling her finger on the table in circles.
"i already told you. my private school was shit." she says shrugging. lucy stays close to me, holding my hand under the table.
"i thought you moved." i say, confused. that's the reason she broke up with me. because she said she was moving. i furrow my eyebrows, seeing her look away from me.
