dakota's p.o.v

"wait she kissed you in the cheek?!" kenzie shouts as we sit on my couch, talking about my day yesterday. i nod, shrugging gently.

i told her all about it and through the whole thing she was shocked at what happened. every little thing i told her made her either smirk or just smile sweetly. she gets me too excited, i don't want to get my hopes up.

"yeah she did." i say, scratching my arm in a sort of nervous manner.

"dakota that's not normal for a girl to do to a lesbian girl when you're just friends." she says and my eyebrows furrow.

"what do you mean?" i ask, confused. she rolls her eyes, hitting my chest back gently.

"you're a horrible lesbian." she says and lets out a laugh afterwards.

"oh shut up!" i say loudly to her. she puts her hands up in a surrendering way. "any other things that i am you feel the need to spit out?" i ask and she looks up pretending to think.

"hm, not at the moment." she taps her chin. i sigh, giving her a dirty look. "looks all's i'm saying is that why would she kiss your cheek when she knows you like girls and she happens to be a very pretty one. she's either clueless or she's trying to tease you."

"t-tease me?" i ask, pointing at myself. she nods in an obvious matter. "why would she-"

"because she likes you!" she interrupts me, shaking me vigorously by my shoulders. i grab her arms, taking them away from me. she's going to give me a headache.

"lucy doesn't like me!" i deny, shaking my head. "she's just too nice to everyone."

"d, she's been in a bad spot with nate and you've been there to help her and keep her happy. i think she's falling for you." she smirks, crossing her arms. this is what i'm saying when i say she's going to get my hopes up.

"i think nothing, don't get me excited!" i hit her leg gently, putting my head down at my lap.

"sorry kiddo, it's just something different when she's been hanging with you more than her best friend." she says, grinning.

kenzie and i both look over to the coffee table as my phone starts ringing. we both see it says 'lucy<3' on it and i gasp, wondering why she's calling me. kenzie picks it up and hands it to me.

"answer!" she says loudly to me. i nod, looking at my phone.

"okay okay!" i say back and press the answer button. i put the phone up to my ear and take a deep breath. "hello?" i say gently.

"hey." i hear her say on the other line. i can't tell what she's feeling right now. not yet.

"hi lucy. what's up?" i ask nicely as kenzie stares at me from across me on the couch.

"i just wanted to see what you were doing. i'm not having the best day." she says and now i can hear the sad tone in her voice. i shake my head at kenzie, telling her it's not good.

"i'm with kenzie right now but..why?" i ask concerned. nate. i bet it's nate.

"oh i'm sorry to interrupt. i'll go." she says and i'm quick to answer her back.

"no! no you don't have to go." i tell her and it's quiet. "i told you i'm always here for you. what's going on?" i ask and i look to see kenzie smiling at me. she nods, telling me 'good job'.

"nate and nicole are together right now. they didn't text me or anything." she says. i think about when she told me about how nicole talks about nate a lot. maybe she likes him.
