dakota's p.o.v
after explain to kenzie what happened when i followed lucy to her locker this morning, her, olivia, and i all changed the subject. not in a bad way, but because kenzie was being too loud and was getting angry at the thought of nate saying that stuff to me. i figures out that olivia is actually really fun, maybe i can get close to her too one day.
"hey don't look now.." olivia says interrupting kenzie talking about her teacher. i narrow my eyes. "but lucy's walking over here."
my eyes widen as i stay still, not looking back. i stop eating, waiting to hear that voice of hers. olivias eyes follow something behind me and seconds later, someone plops right beside me.
"hi dakota." she smiles, sitting a little too to me. not too close for my liking but definitely too close for other people's liking.
"hey um..why aren't you.." i trail off, looking at her confused. she shakes her head, turning to look at her lunch table.
"nicole isn't sitting with me, which i'm not complaining about. and i don't really want to deal with nate until we have our talk later." she explains to me. "i have a feeling it's not going to go good." she sighs, i just nod, swallowing hard.
"i hope everything turns out okay. you're welcome to sit here with us." i tell her. she blushes and nods, thanking me quietly.
i turn over to kenzie who is smirking. i give her a look that says 'don't embarrass me'. she looks towards olivia and she just smiles, continuing to eat.
i continue to eat so as kenzie starts a new conversation. i cant seem to focus as i think of all the things that will be said that lucy is sitting with us at lunch. i turn my head to her, ready to say something but nothing comes out of my mouth as our eyes meet. her beautiful brown eyes stare back into mine and it's like we are both frozen. my gosh she is too pretty. her eyes are hard to look away from.
"umm.." i break the awkward silence as i'm pretty sure olivia and kenzie are staring at us. "you don't care that people are going to talk about you sitting with us?" i ask her gently. she furrows her eyebrows.
"why would people talk?" she asks. i sigh, shrugging.
"exactly what i just said. you're sitting with us." i tell her. she shakes her head lightly, bringing her hand up and move a strand of hair from my face. my heart starts beating fast and hard, almost out of my chest.
"i don't care, dakota. and i will never let anyone i know talk to you like that's again." she cups my chin, giving me a cute smile. i nod, breathing deeply from my nose.
"okay." i say and turn back to my friends. they are both staring at us with wide eyes. kenzie looks shocked but with a look that also says 'i'm not surprised'. olivias face just screams 'what the hell just happened?'
"kenzie." i laugh awkwardly. "how's work going?" i ask giving her wide eyes, trying to tell her to snap out of it. she does and nods.
"oh it's good! boring of course." she says laughing back with me. let's just say the rest of lunch was a little awkward for all of us.
[at home]
i pace back and forth in my room, biting my finger nails. how will lucy and nates talk go? did he cheat? will they break up? will they make up totally but then get in another fight tomorrow? i need answers!
i fight the urge to grab my but it was no use. i'm already on lucy and i's messages, typing a quick 'call me when you're done'. i throw my phone back on my bed and take a deep breath. then, i continue pacing for another five minutes.
