Chapter six :
He holds my shoulders to keep me from falling any further and pulls me up. I straighten up and stand on my own as he releases me, not able to form a coherent sentence while looking into those fascinating brown eyes.
"I...I-I'm-"
"You what?", he interrupts me harshly and I'm startled by his suddenly angry expression.
He's about to burst out as a little girl tugs at his jeans. She has chocolate brown hair and is with her adorable pout one of the cutest little kids I have ever seen. She also got these brown eyes, just as the stranger in front of me.
He kneels down beside her and she starts whispering something into his ears. You can see how he visibly relaxes while being near her, she must be very important to him.
"Sure we can get you an ice cream," he sais standing up and smiling down at her. He then turns around without saying anything else, while I still stand there watching them walk away. The little girl turns her head, waves at me and then catches up to him again, taking his hand and skipping happily.
Two minutes later they're long gone, and I see someone staring at me from the corner of my eyes. I turn around and see a man with brown hair, he looks about forty-five and I pray to God that this isn't my father.
But who else would look at me with such strong emotions, mixed from sadness to relief?
I'm completely sure that it's him when he starts walking towards me. Ben jumps up and down happily, remembering my dad like he's never been away.
He finally approaches us and smiles proudly at me.
"I'm so glad to see you, you're still as pretty as when you were my little girl. Not that you're not my little girl anymore, I just mean you look like a real lady now and-"
At this point I had to stop my father. He obviously starts rambling when he's nervous.
"I got it." Or at least I think so.
"Well, okay then... I see you still got Ben?", he asks and kneels down beside him. Ben looks so excited, like he would do a happy-dance any moment. And this is so cute, that I can't even be mad at him for not ignoring my father, like I had secretly hoped for. I mean he's still a dog.
"Yeah. And if you didn't mind I would prefer leaving."
My dad looks up at me, rushes to his feet and answers with a suprised 'sure'.
"You're eager to see your new home? Cause you gonna love Cleveland, it's beautiful."
"Dad, don't." I mumbled and walked past him to the carpark.
"Anna? I don't want to offend you, but you're going the wrong way!"
