My eyes fluttered open and I could see those familiar ink-black feathers gently cocooning me. I reached out with my left hand to stroke them gently, no longer fearing them. They were so soft. I felt Lilah's warm steady breath against my neck as she lay behind me sleeping soundly. I let my fingers travel the length of her wings, amazed at the sensation. I snuggled backwards a tad, closer against Lilah's body and closed my eyes again; this is okay.
I sensed the bright stream of sunlight penetrating through the curtains waking me up. But without warning, I immediately felt a sharp pain in my back. It felt like a branding iron or some sort of knife was carving away right into my spine, tears started to spill from my now wide-open eyes.
I started gasping for air while clenching the bed sheet in my fists, I tried to scream but found my breath so stuck in my lungs that I could barely let out a sound. I tried to move but backed into Lilah who was sleeping behind me, stirring her awake. I was finally able to let some sound out and groaned in pain, subconsciously grinding my teeth together as the next wave of pain hit me.
"Noa?" Lilah grumbled half asleep before opening her eyes and seeing me wither in pain next to her. Afraid of rolling me over, she quickly got up and came around to the other side of the bed so she could face me. "What's wrong? What's going on Noa?"
If I knew, I'd tell her, trust me. But all I could muster to say was "My back... fire..." in between gasps. I tried to communicate further but my breathing was too ragged and all I could do was shut my eyes tightly as another wave of sharp pain went through my spine.
Lilah went back to her side of the bed and lifted the bed sheet that still covered most of my bare body. The gasp that I heard over my own pain did not help me in that moment at all.
"What is... it?" I forcibly breathed out.
"Your back... it's like... you are getting tattooed or something... like right now..." She exclaimed, covering her mouth with a hand in shock.
"What?!"
"I... I don't know. It's like your back is growing some sort of design all on its own..." Lilah struggled to explain just as the last wave of pain hit, which caused me to shudder and groan. All I could do was wait for it to pass, and I could tell that Lilah felt useless.
I felt a dip in the bed behind me as she very careful laid next to me, and when I opened my eyes momentarily, I could see the black wings from my dream around me. I took a few shaky breaths, closed my eyes, and accepted what was in front of me. I was kind of getting used to seeing them by now.
With time, my heart rate calmed down and I could feel the pain in my back become more of a dull ache. Lilah must have sensed it and began to stroke my damp short hair with her fingers, lulling me back into a slumber. This is okay.
I don't know how long I dozed off for, but when I woke up again, I turned onto my other side and snuggled closer into Lilah's warm body. I took in her scent and nuzzled closer into the crook of her neck. I felt her kiss the top of my head and reciprocated the sentiment with a kiss on her collarbone.
"How are you feeling?" She whispered into my hair.
"A little hungry to be honest." I chuckled which caused Lilah to tremble a tad, my warm breath tickling her neck.
"Are you okay though?"
"To be honest, it feels like it was a bad dream... I don't feel any different right now." I traced her jawline with my finger, trying to commit the feeling of skin to memory. "I mean... is there still something on my back?" I asked as I rolled onto my stomach so that Lilah could take a look.
After a few moments of silence, I felt a hand tracing something on my back causing me to shiver. "Lilah?"
"It's... beautiful..."
"Can you take a photo and show me?" I got up to look for my jeans and got my phone out of the back pocket. When I went to unlock it, I saw a strange message from an unknown number.
Unknown: The bond has been sealed.
I shrugged it off as some spam message or wrong number before I opened the camera app on my phone and handed it to Lilah. She angled the phone before snapping the photo and showing it to me.
I did not expect that.
What I saw before me was unlike anything I had ever seen. It really looked like a tattoo, but I wasn't sure of what. There were swirls and spikes, sharp and curved lines. I really didn't know what it was, but it spoke to me. In a way it was beautiful, and something deep inside me understood that it came from within me and that it connected me with Lilah. Don't ask me how I knew, but something inside me just did.
"It is pretty beautiful to be honest." I heard Lilah say from behind before she wrapped her arms around my naked waist and kissed my shoulder.
"And I guess a free tattoo is a good tattoo?" I joked which caused us both to laugh at the absurdity of the situation. "Can we go get some breakfast now? Because if we don't then I just might eat you."
"Oh ho, I don't see any problem with that" She teased which caused me to blush a tad and turn around to push her back on the bed. She just raised a seductive eyebrow and smirked, beckoning me over with her finger.
I slowly made my way over and straddled her lower section. As I bent down towards her lips, which she hungrily awaited, I very sneakily licked the whole side of her cheek.
"Ew!! Noa!" She squealed and shoved me away playfully as she grabbed some blanket to remove my saliva from her face. I fell off in a fit of laughter, clutching my stomach in pain.
"I told you that I'm hungry!" I exclaimed as I rolled off the bed with a thump which caused me to laugh even harder.
It took us a little longer to get dressed as Lilah kept throwing my clothes on the other side of the room. When I asked her why, she said she just liked seeing me naked. That obviously made me blush deeply and mumble about how I just wanted some 'damn pancakes.'
Luckily, it was still pretty early in the morning, and since it was a Saturday, we both didn't need to go into work.
Just as I was leaving the bedroom, I saw Uri groggily leaving the bathroom, rubbing his eye with the back of his hand. Sleepy Uri was just too cute. "Good morning sleepyhead"
He just waved a tired arm and went back to his room. Was it that early?
I checked my phone as I made my way down to the kitchen to get some coffee started and saw that it was only 6:43am.
Wow.
Lesbian time is a total time warp, I swear.

So?? What do you think??
I know it's a much shorter chapter than the last, but I figured you deserved a break. The last chapter was LONG (but oh so good still)
Also, I love groggy Uri.
