Chapter 20: "May we meet again"

BELLATRIX POV:

Wonkru marched into the valley, following Octavia reluctantly. Glancing around the chasm, my dark eyes glanced around as an eery silence consumed us. Something felt wrong, it felt off. I didn't want to be the only one that felt it, but I doubted anyone would speak up, so I clutched the gun close to my chest and my eyes darted every which way, fearing for my life. A numbness consumed me; I felt a heaviness in my chest as my body moved to its own accord. Like I had no control over where I was going. Pushing the feeling consuming me, I had to remind myself it wasn't about what I wanted, it was about surviving. I wanted to march on this valley and go to war by Bellamy's side, and here I was. Whatever happened, it was on me.

Kali walked up beside me with Gaia standing by her side, I smiled, glancing over at her, I was glad she had her family back. Wonkru stopped and I crouched down, looking around as I heard guns go off in the distance. Octavia turned around, nodding to Indra and Kali before holding up her sword, signalling for everyone to keep on marching. I marched forward with them, wiping the sweat from my forehead and ignoring the pain in my leg. I just had to keep on moving, marching closer to the people that had become my family. I frowned as how silent it had become.

"Be careful today," Kali warned me, leaving Gaia's side. "You've come a long way from the girl you were when we first met." She stated, placing her hand on my shoulder. She then turned away, looking forward.

"What will you do when we have peace?" I asked her.

"Gaia will be fleimkepa, Indra will no doubt be in the royal guard of the commander, and me? I'm thinking I'll have my own little home overlooking the valley with Atticus, I'll still be a warrior, but I think I want to find something else I'm good at, you know, for Atticus." Kali shared; a bright smile spread on her lips. "It's our chance to start over."

"That's really sweet," I laughed lightly, glancing around as a chill ran down my spine. I'd never had goals like that, I think once when I was up on the ark, before I stole the rations, I had a plan for what I was going to do with my life. But it had been so long since then, so much had changed, and I'd forgotten who I was and what I'd really wanted. Or maybe I'd always been so busy trying to make it through the day that I'd never had a goal. On some level I felt like I'd always been aimless, in search of something that was just out of reach and shrouded in darkness.

"What about you?" Kali asked, I looked away from her, shaking my head.

"I'm going to live with my family, we're going to have a farm and just live." I breathed out, looking up at the sky. "I think not fighting to survive might be nice," I offered, shrugging my shoulders.

"Might?" Kali asked, amused as gunfire began to go off, I jumped, returning to look at the front, I quickly got my gun up, spotting the men and shooting up at them. My eyes went wide as I saw the canon and I quickly grabbed Kali, roughly tugging her out of the way. As it fired at us, I screamed being thrown to the side, I landed against the cool ground, I groaned, looking around. Squinting, my eyes blurred as I tried to drag myself out of the line of sight, I coughed, pushing myself up and stumbling behind the rocks and I groaned, reaching out and grasping my stomach. Falling flat against the rocks I tilted my head back, looking up at the sky.

I turned, grabbing a gun and rolling onto my stomach, I aimed, looking up over the rocks, shooting at them but total devastation laid in our wake, grenades going off, people dying left and right. People I didn't know, but they were people I knew deserved better than me. The canon shot off again, and I quickly jumped away from the rocks, coughing as the pile I was hiding behind blew up, I glanced over my shoulder, trying to remain invisible, crawling towards the next closest pile and I hid behind it, panting as I looked around for anyone I knew and I saw no one.
