Anniversary
"Love, sorry hindi ako makakapunta sa dinner natin. Pinapapunta kasi ako ni Dad sa site ngayon. Nakulangan daw kasi ng materyales."
I sighed and forced a smile, kahit hindi niya ako nakikita.
"It's okay, love. Madami pa namang araw para mag celebrate tayo. Basta mag iingat ka and update me" i replied.
I heard him sigh heavily, kaya napatigil ako sa paglalakad. He's overthinking again.
"Kio, i said it's fine right? I understand, and besides it' work."
"But you're disappointed" giit niya.
"No, i am not disappointed at you, i'm disappointed because of the sudden turn up of the events. Hindi mo naman kasalanan na kailangan mong pumunta doon at pagalitan sila." i replied, jokingly.
Papalabas na ako ng building kaya madaming bumabati sa akin, i gave the a smile and a slight nod. I started working at Mom's clothing company after i graduated college. I worked my way to the top, not just because i'm the daughter's owner, it doesn't mean i already deserve a higher place in this company. Natuto akong makihalubilo sa ibang empleyado ng ilang taon nang hindi nila nalalaman kung sino ako. My mom's clothing company is newly established here in the Metro, kaya hindi pa masyadong matunog ang pangalan nung umpisa.
"Baliw. Basta babawi ako sa'yo, okay? I'm really sorry.."
"It's fine nga! Ang kulit. Sige na, you should hang up, baka gabihin ka pa sa Tagaytay"
"I love you, baby. Happy Anniversary"
"Happy anniversary, love love ko! Ingat ka, Mahal kita!" i said and ended the call.
Nalulungkot man ako na hindi kami matutuloy sa dinner namin, pero naiintindihan ko siya. I guess i have to eat dinner alone. Iniisip ko kung dapat kong tawagan ang isa sa mga kabigan ko para samahan ako, pero baka busy sila. Well, as far as i know Snow is in New York, Maze is exploring Africa, si Serena naman ay nasa Makati at si Kylie ay nasa Batangas. Si Mommy ay nasa Pangasinan na talaga, at ako muna ang nag mamanage ng kompanya. Masyado silang clingy ni Daddy sa isa't isa.
Uuwi nalang ako, bahala na yung reservation namin. I'll just binge watch and order pizza, tamang-tama nagce-crave ako. I never imagined I'd spend our 4th year anniversary alone. Dapat lang talaga na bumawi siya saakin. Hmp!
The past years we're not easy, especially the adjustment period from being a student to a complete adult with work and all that. But we got through it together. He's been nothing but sweet and considerate, and of course gago. But he only makes me see the baby boy side of him, yung tipong iyakin at napaka sensitive.
I was on my way home. I was singing along to my playlist when my phone rang. I accepted the call without even knowing who it was.
"Good evening! Who's this?" i answered using a formal tone.
