You tossed around in bed, feeling restless as thoughts swarmed your head. JJ had been acting distant towards you and you couldn't come up with an explanation as to why.
You wanted to run up to him and ask him why he'd been acting different, but you guys weren't a couple. JJ flirted with you, definitely, but he flirted with everyone, that was just apart of his character.
You thoroughly replayed the weeks events in your head as you tried to think of what you could have done to have JJ ignore you like this, but you couldn't come up with anything.
JJ wasn't acting like this with any of the other pogues... just you. At first you thought it was his dad, but what did that have to do with you? Your frown deepened, if even possible.
You weren't sure what was worse, knowing what you had done or not knowing. Glancing out the window, the moonlight filled your room as the sound of the waves begged you to sleep, but you couldn't.
Getting up, you quickly threw on a hoodie, sneaking out. If JJ wouldn't come to you, you would go to him. You let yourself out the window, careful not to be too loud.
You watched your surroundings as you walked the short distance to John B's, which you were sure JJ was staying at. The only sound filling your ears were the gentle waves.
As John B's came into view, you suddenly regretted stepping out of the house. What were you even doing? It was almost 2 in the morning. If JJ didn't want to talk before, he surely wouldn't at this hour.
Sighing, you began to turn back, but froze when you heard footsteps. You turned to look at the side of the house, where the noise was coming from, and watched as a figure came out of the darkness.
"JJ?" I called out, confused as to what the blonde was doing out here so late. He looked up, eyes widening when he saw you.
"What are you doing here?" He asked and he stepped closer coming into view. You squirmed in your spot, feeling a lot less brave now that the boy was standing in front of you.
"Actually, I came to see you," you replied, looking at the ground, but when you looked up, you noticed the cuts on JJ's face. Your brows instantly furrowed at the sight and you raised hand to his face, but JJ pulled away.
Taken aback, you didn't think much as JJ backed away from you, refusing to make eye contact.
"What did you want to talk to me about?" He asked, shoving his hands in his pockets. You sighed quietly, preparing yourself for this conversation.
"I just wanted to know if everything between us is... okay, I guess," you say, fidgeting with your fingers awkwardly. JJ looks up at you, finally, and his face asks you go in further.
"You've just been kind of distant and I got worried," you explained. JJ eyes you intensely and you look away.
"Everything's fine, I don't even understand why you're asking," he huffs, but you can see there's something more. You finally decide to look at him head on.
"JJ, everything is clearly not fine. You're ignoring me and if you think I didn't notice then you're wrong." Your voice sounds strong, but you feel the complete opposite. Your legs feel wobbly and the tiredness is finally starting to hit, but you stand your ground.
"I don't always have time for you," JJ says, rolling his eyes and his words hit you a little harder than you would've liked. "Just because I'm not with you 24/7 doesn't mean something's wrong."
"So, is everything okay, then? You've just been avoiding me for fun?" You question, hoping that JJ's next words aren't ones you don't want to hear.
"It's not like that, y/n," JJ sighs, but that answer isn't enough for you.
"You don't seem to have a problem talking to Pope.. or- or Kie," you point out. "What did I do?" By now you were more than a little upset. Part of you wanted to give up and go home, but you were so close to finding out what was wrong.
"You didn't do anything, for fuck sake," JJ curses. "I just wasn't talking to you, stop making things up to seem worse than they are."
You cock your head to the side. He's a good liar, but the words coming out of his mouth don't match the emotion in his eyes. He sounded angry, but he doesn't look it. He looks worn down and confused.
"JJ, I'm not going to fight for a spot in your life," you started. "Either I have one or I don't." You look at him, nerves rattling about as you words test the his loyalty.
"Well, then I guess you don't have one," he says and turns away before you can get another word out. Staring after him, you watch as he lets himself into the house, leaving you alone in the darkness.
