You sat in a booth at the Wreck. Kie was working today and you had the honour of taking home the leftovers for the boys.
Beside you, your phone lit up from a notification and your face broke out in a smile upon seeing the wallpaper—a photo of JJ that Pope has taken. It was incredibly cheesy and you loved it.
You had never expected to be dating one of your closest friends—it was a weird thought you hadn't even been able to bring yourself to consider at one point.
Afraid that your guys' relationship would tear the group apart, you denied your feelings for too long, until you realized your relationship only brought you pogues closer together.
You were happy, JJ was happy, and you couldn't be more thankful, especially after JJ's ex-girlfriend had cheated on him. The very thought still made your blood boil.
You would never forget how hard the months after JJ's breakup were for him—and hard for you, as well, in a different way.
"These are the only leftovers I could pull together right now," Kie says, bringing you forcefully out of your thoughts. "Make sure to tell the boys to share."
"Got it," you reply and grab the bag, sending Kie a thankful grin before pushing the glass doors open.
Wind brushed through your hair as you walked over to the chateau.
You didn't knock on the door, letting yourself in the house to see the three boys laying about on the pull-out couch.
"I brought food," you sang out and was instantly greeted with hungry looks (the looks meant for the food, obviously).
You took a seat on the couch, not hungry yet as you'd eaten a little while ago. Pope plopped down beside you with a plate in his hands, looking over at you.
"Where's Kie?" He asked eagerly, taking a bite of food.
"She's just finishing up her shift, she should be here soon," you shrugged and Pope nodded. "Why aren't you eating anything, JJ?"
Your gaze turned over to the boy, his eyes looking up from the ground to meet yours and you instantly noticed a look of worry.
"Not hungry, yet. Want to come outside with me?" He answered nonchalantly and you followed him out to the hammock. He took a seat, not meeting your gaze and you sighed.
"So, what's the problem?" You asked.
"Who's to say there's a problem?" JJ snapped and you rolled your eyes at his response.
"I know you too well. You can tell me," you said a little softer and you expected a snarky comment back, but JJ's eyes filled with sadness instead.
"I've been, um—I've been talking to my ex again. She wants to get back together with me," JJ said and though his voice was barely above a whisper, you caught every word.
"You've . . . been talking to your ex?" You repeat and you felt like a small punch had been thrown at your stomach. "But, I mean, you don't want to get back together . . . do you?"
JJ stayed silent for a few moments, but then he looked up.
"We didn't get a real chance, I think it could work," he reasoned and you couldn't believe your ears. You shook your head, formulating an answer that wouldn't come off as completely rude, but it was hard.
