Calling Damon was a mistake, she knew he would be worried and he would come to see her. And that’s what happened, her eyes opened by the knock on her door. She went to open it, without even asking who it was. Damon’s smiling face greeted her and he went inside by pushing her inside.

“What the hell are you doing here?” she tried to sound mad but he rolled his eyes.

“You should’ve thought about that before calling me. I’m here because you were crying and cut the phone without even a word. You thought I would leave you like that?” he sat on the couch.

She sighed and went near him “what about Elena? She is not safe there.” he pulled her onto the couch and looked at her with a serious expression.

He could see the dark circles under her eyes, her hair was messy, she looked like shit. “Stefen is with her, don’t worry about her. You tell me what’s bothering you y/n? I know something happened.”

she knew he wouldn’t leave this so she turned the TV on. Captain America’s return was still a headline.

She sat beside him, watching the news silently.

He turned towards her and grabbed her shoulders. “You should be happy y/n. Why were you crying? You got your chance, all these years you couldn’t move on and now he is here. What’s the problem?” Damon started to ramble.

He knew she was confused about what to do.

She shrugged “you know I can’t do that. I’m happy he is back but… I can’t go back to him. Everything is changed.” that made him pissed, for him she was acting childish.

“What has changed y/n? You still love him, you haven’t even looked at someone all these years. And him, he still loves you, and right now he needs you. You should go to him..”

“I know what I have to do. You don’t tell me, Damon. And no, everything is not the same anymore. Him, I, everything is changed. He is not that boy I knew, that little boy I fell in love with. He is Captain America, which I just heard about, never met.

And me, I’m not that simple girl, a doctor who saves her patients without any concern whether they are a good person. Who never thought of hurting anyone. That girl is gone Damon, all I am now, is a murderer, a beast who lives on blood. All these years, there are people I killed, no matter who they were. If they are monsters so am I, I wasn’t doing that for some good purpose. I was killing to live.” “I can’t go back, after everything I did. He doesn’t need a blood-sucking monster in his life. He needs some to love him not to feed on him. I can bear living without him, but I can’t live with his rejection. He won’t accept me.”

“You don’t know that!” Damon yelled, cutting her off. “ you are not a monster. You killed bad people so you could live and stop more bastards like them. He became a hero like that, by killing bad guys. You did the same y/n. Don’t make choices you would regret.” he tried to make her understand but she was too stubborn.

Right now her main priority was Katherina and saving the life of Elena, not because she was Damon’s girl but because she was her friend. “I’ll think about it later, to think clearly I need to finish my job first, finding Katherine. Till then let him think what he wants. Let him adjust here on his own, just Like I did after he was gone. I know he is alone, so was I before you. Let him fit into this life.” she said, silently telling him to shut up.

After spending the evening together and making him food, she kicked him out of her house. He had to be with Elena and because he was trying to convince her to rethink everything.

She wasn’t lying when she said, to think properly she had to clear her head. Katherine was a big problem now, her links with SHIELD’s agents were making it more important than just Klaus needing to find her.

But that didn’t mean she forgot about her superhero. Despite her finding the bitch mission, she kept her eyes on Steve. She was there, seeing him walking lonely in the streets. She was always there. She saw him, trying to find her. Getting to know where she went, what she did after he was gone. But he didn’t know the person he was trying to find was just behind him. He just needed to focus, because she was always there with him.
