That night I had slept on the beach, to the side and alone. I was the only one smart enough to know how to make a fire apparently, and so they all slept cold. When morning came, it was raining and my fire had been put out. The guards were still sleeping, along with most of the kids. I opened my pack and found a poncho, and put it on before searching for other useful items. I found a knife, a small mirror, some crackers, an apple, a few medical supplies, and a compass. I also found a plain piece of paper and a pencil. I kept the apple and knife out before putting all of the items away and hitting the sand to keep my fire from starting up again. I headed for the woods when I heard someone from behind me. "Where do you think your going?" It was a guy from my school named Ricky, he was the quarter back of our football team and the school bully.
"Into the woods, you guys don't want me here so I'll just live in the woods until I die." I shrugged and headed off, but he grabbed my arm firmly.
"Well if you're so set on dying, that can be arranged." He smirked as he grabbed my pack from me, and pushed me into a tree.
"Let go of me Ricky." I glared, and he glared back before putting his knife to my throat.
"I don't take orders from you." He smirked, then traced his knife along the hem of my shirt.
"I think the girl's right on this one, you ought to let her go." Ricky stiffened and turned to see the son behind him and aiming his gun. Ricky slowly backed up, but paused to whisper to me before leaving for good.
"Watch your back your highness, you won't have pretty boy here to protect you all of the time." He smirked before eyeing me up and down, and walking back to the other kids.
I nodded to the son before repicking up my pack and heading to the woods. "You should stick with the group ya know, just for a little longer at least." He said, and I nodded before throwing my pack against a tree and looked around for anything useful. "Why do you separate yourself from the others?" He asked, and I was beginning to get annoyed with him.
"What does it matter to you?" I said, and he put his hands up in surrender. He was going to walk away, but I had more to say. "How can you people just take kids and send them off to die?" I asked, and he kept quiet. The man remained standing there for a bit longer before finally walking away. I put my knife in my mouth as I climbed up the tree to get a good look at the island, and the guard looked back at me once more before leaving.
I climbed to the top and looked around. I saw the kids, the guards, the tiny island with the trunk, and then turned to look around the other way. It was a bunch of trees, but far on the other side I thought I saw smoke. When I climbed back down, people looked over at me, and I realised that some of the kids were huddled at the shore. That's when I saw Ricky took off his shirt and pants. I walked over and people glared, but I ignored them and walked to Ricky. "Ricky what are you doing?"
"That trunk or chest thing may have supplies we need, so I'm going to swim out and get it if you really must know."
"There's sharks in the water." I said, he seemed a bit scared until he saw the kids looking at him and tried to act big.
"Then I'll fight the shark and ride him like a horse back to shore." I rolled my eyes as the others cheered while he dove into a wave, this caught the attention of some of the guards.
"Go shark bait!" One of the guards yelled and laughed, but it scared the other kids and they took a couple steps back from the shore. Ricky stopped swimming about five yards out and smirked at me.
"Where's your sharks at your highness." He laughed, and the kids laughed with him until someone squinted out to the left of the shore.
"Shark!" She yelled and pointed to the fin that was gaining on Ricky.
