MERCURYS POV.
"So, what's going to happen?" I asked Angelo, watching Adaline, Nicholas and Violet comfort each other while the two of us stood in the kitchen.
"To be completely honest with you, I don't know." He sighed. "They're going to run again, that's pretty clear."
None of this makes sense.
"I don't get it. Why can't we just let them leave?" I asked another question.
"Because if anyone finds out that we had any connections to them, their debt falls on us and there will be a hell of a lot of tension between the families."
Oh.
Oh.
"And you won't be home as much." I finished for him.
"Exactly." He groaned as he ran a hand through his hair.
I began to think about what could be done at this point.
We can't let them leave but we can't necessarily keep a hundred people around them to keep them from leaving.
Wait.
There might be something.
"What about the pool house?"
"What pool house?"
"Our pool house."
He stared at me as if I wasn't even real.
"Our pool house? You want them to stay in- No. Absolutely not."
"Think about it. We can't leave them alone, and with you around, they won't even think about leaving. You scare them too much."
"Honey, you know I love you more than anything, but you're out of your fucking mind if you think-,"
"Angelo, they aren't exactly smart enough to understand what could happen if they leave. Plus I think they're too shallow to care."
It was a stupid idea, I know.
But it was either that, or have a possible war with another family.
I already lost my mother, and I wasn't ready to lose Angelo.
He could see that I was obviously pretty serious if I was bringing up them staying anywhere near us.
"I must be losing my fucking mind." He said quietly under his breath before turning back to me.
"If this is happening, there are going to be some rules."
Understandable.
"That's understandable."
"They aren't allowed inside the main house, you aren't allowed to talk to them, and they aren't allowed to talk to you."
"That's it?" I was expecting something a little bit more-
"Not even close. If something happens to you because of them, I kill Nick and let Adaline and Violet fend for themselves. Do you understand?"
And there it is.
"That seems reasonable." I agreed to his rules, not caring because they didn't affect me really at all.
I don't really like the thought of him killing someone because of me. Again.
"Is the whole killing someone thing necessary though?"
I was never really one for murder.
It was different for Warren, but I wished that there was something else that could be done.
"Mer, we've talked about this."
"I know but-,"
"You're not just someone random that I choose to defend for no reason Mercury."
"I just don't understand why death has to be apart of this." I sighed.
"I know you don't understand yet. Hell, I don't even understand it yet. But you're my kid. You're my only child. I don't even like Gino being around you, much less anyone else."
I groaned again.
"Ginos harmless and my uncle."
"He's an idiot and your godfather, I'm aware."
"You can say it, I'm the most adorable thing you've ever seen." I jokingly shrugged.
"There's no point if you just said it."
"Speaking of which, someone's definitely out to take my spot as your favorite thing in the world."
"Who?"
"Violet has been mean mugging me pretty much the entire time we've been talking." I motioned towards her direction. "You really need to stop looking like an Italian bachelor and start looking like an Italian father of a teenager. It's gross."
"And ruin these abs? I don't think so."
Ew.
"Anyways, lets get this conversation done with." He decided, letting me walk over to them first as he followed behind closely.
"Are you going to kill me?" Nick asked straight away.
"Is that an invitation?" Angelo asked as he sat down next to me, nothing but hope filling his eyes.
"Listen, whatever happens, just don't bring my daughter into this. She didn't do anything wrong." He defended.
"The three of you will be staying with us." Angelo cut right to the chase.
"What?" They all asked at the same time.
"As in, in the same house?" My mother questioned, looking between both Angelo and I.
"No. I can't trust you enough to be alone, so you will be staying in the pool house."
Mom looked down in an attempt to hide her smile.
She's actually happy about this? What the hell?
Violet didn't look too upset about it either.
"You're joking right?" Nick stared at the both of us.
When did he break his wrist?
"I wish I was."
"This is bullshit!" He yelled as he stood up suddenly, making me jump.
"Watch yourself Conner." Angelo warned as he looked me over for any injury.
And Adaline did the exact same thing.
Nothing even hit me.
Instinct I guess.
"You know what? No! I am not going to keep letting you dictate our lives like this!"
"You chose a real Einstein, didn't you?" I asked his fiancée sarcastically.
He's dead.
"Lower you voice Conner." Angelo warned again.
"What are you going to do about it Lesca?"
Called it.
He was very obviously caught up with his own anger.
Something told me I didn't want to be in here for this one.
"I'll be outside."
