It was that time of the year again and Frederick really wanted to do something nice for you. You were always so supportive of him and always backed him up even if you knew he was wrong. You'd given him so much. You gave him back his confidence when he was recovering and even gave him a family.
He still couldn't understand why you chose him but he loved you so much he really tried not to think about it as much now that you had a daughter. Aubrey had just turned 5 a couple months back and could be quite a handful you both knew. But even so, he couldn't bare to be away from his two girls.
So now here he was, sitting in the living room, Aubrey on his knee, explaining to her the plan for today. He'd explicitly told her not to tell her about what he was doing and she promised. You were in the kitchen making everyone waffles, oblivious to their plotting.
"Thats right, sweetheart. Today we'll go out and get mummy a present and some chocolates and then we'll go to a movie tomorrow" he smiled kissing his daughter on the cheek and planting her hair, keeping his voice down just enough for you not to hear. The little girl giggled and nodded her head before jumping off him and zooming to the kitchen table.
You were leaning against the counter, sipping your coffee and cutting Aubrey some strawberries when she clambered up onto the table top. She seemed rather proud of herself as she put her chin up to the ceiling in victory. You gave her an amused laugh, grabbing her and spinning her upside down before gently dropping her vac into her seat and putting her plate of breakfast in front of her.
"Thankyou, momma." She sent you a dramatic air kiss and blew it to you.
Frederick walked in to the kitchen and helped set your plates out before sitting beside his girl. She gave him a smile and they began to eat in peace...
For a moment...
Until your five year old cleared her throat, "also... me and daddy definitely aren't gonna get you chocolates or anything today" she told you both, placing her head down on the table, looking at her father, who looked slightly disheartened but his it enough to look normal.
She maintained eye contact with him, slowly and rather awkwardly trying to wink. She tried valiantly before just ending up with a scrunched up nose and two clamped eyes. He snorted at her and looked to you.
You looked at him under a few loose strands of (h/c) hair, smiling at him shyly like you did the first time you'd kissed. The look you gave him made his heart thump in his chest and a light blush appeared on his face. He tore his eyes away from you to look at Aubrey, who had been watching the exchange of her parents with curious brown eyes. "Have I ever told you what I think of your mother, Aubs?" He asks, a cocky smile on his lips.
She perks up off the table and nods, "yep! You always tell me that you think she's bootyful and that she is really smart and that she makes the best waffles" she smiles and uses her hands to emphasize his words, "butttt... You think she nags."
You looked at him with a scowl but before you could reprimand him, she started up once more, "in the bathroom when you put on your make up you always talk about how pretty momma is and how she makes you smile like a loser" she stopped to catch her breath and you lean over the table to graze your lips against his quickly, "momma does it too. She talks about how hamsum you are. And about how much she loves you" you both smiled at eachother as she mispronounces words.
When you'd all finished your breakfast, he pulled Aubrey from her chair and cradles her in his arms like a princess. "Alright you charmer, let's go and let mum get some rest before having to deal with you for the rest of the day" she pouts childishly and crosses her arms. "Hey! You're the one she nags because you don't turn the lights off!"
You watch from the window as they walk to the car. Frederick pops her into her seat and buckles her in, kissing her forehead before closing the car door and getting in himself. He looked back at her and she then turns to wave at you through the window, making a heart with her hands and shouting rather loudly that she loves you. She smile and send her a kiss and a heart back.
Sure being a mum was frustrating at times and Frederick could be a little selfconscious but the way it made you feel was all the reward you needed. The way it made your heart melt when she gives you her air kisses was perfect and it felt like heaven just having her in your arms as she should be, all secure and safe. And with your husband with you, you felt like you could do anything as long as she was there to scream in her adorably childlike voice that;
"I love you momma!!"
