chapter six:
  THE PHOTOSHOOT

———

May 25th, 2012.
Manhattan, NY.
Kelsey

"Honey are you ready? Can I come in?" My mother knocked on the door and I let her in.

"Good morning to you too." I whined and she chuckled.

"Good morning, baby. Get up and get ready. We're leaving in two hours." She said and left my room. I opened my phone and it was seven am. Perfect.

I laid on the bed for a few minutes and then got up and headed to the shower. I did my hygiene routine and when I was done, I put on some mom fit jeans with a black crop top and my black converses. I brushed my hair and headed to the kitchen.

"I see you're ready. I made you pancakes." My mom said and placed the plate in front of me.

I thanked her and once we were done with eating breakfast, we got in the car and drove to her agency.

"We're here." She announced  and we got out of the car.

"Damn, it's huge." I muttered and we headed inside.

"Good morning Ms Ayesha, good morning Ms Kelsey." A woman greeted us.

"Good morning Lee. Kelsey, this is Lee, my new manager." She introduced us.

"It's nice to finally meet you, Kelsey. I've heard so many good things about you." Lee said with a smile and I glanced at my mom for a second.

"Thank you. It's nice to meet you too." I returned the smile and we all walked on the set for my first official photoshoot as a model.

"Kelsey! Right here!" I heard a female's voice from behind me and turned around.

"Kelsey, that's Alicia. She's going to be your stylist for today's photoshoot." Mom said and I greeted her with a smile.

After changing into my photoshoot clothes, I walked to the set and talked with the photographer. When I was ready, I started posing.

"Give me something innocent yet wild." The photographer instructed and I did as he told me.

"Now something girly. Not bitchy though!" He smiled and I posed just like he wanted.

"Alright, it's a wrap. You were amazing." Christopher, the photographer, said and I thanked him with a smile.

"I watched the whole thing, you snapped!" Alice said and we laughed.

"Thank you girl! Loved the clothes." I said and she nodded with a smile and left.

Me and my mom stayed in the building and then left. We were home by ten am and I stepped in the shower instantly cause I was sweating like crazy.

When I got out, I took my diary from the bedside table and started writing about these past few days. I got chills when I remember Jack admitting that he was homeless for months.

Why wouldn't he tell me? He didn't have to be ashamed, that can happen to everyone. We're best friends and I was mad that he kept something this big from me. I felt like a fool at that moment cause I'm telling him everything about me but he didn't.

I opened my phone to check the time and saw a call from Jack. I was deep in my thoughts that I didn't listen to my phone ringing. I unlocked it and checked the voicemail he left.

"I'm sorry for keeping something like that from you, Kells. I promised myself that I would tell you about it when I would meet you in person. It happened a few months ago, pretty recent. I don't wanna talk about it through the phone, though. I will be in New York in a few hours for a meeting but I hope you have some free time to hang out with me. Text or call me when you'll be done listening to this, please." The voicemail ended and I sighed. I scrolled through my contacts and I tapped on his number. He answered a few rings after.

"Hi." I said.

"Hey, I thought you wouldn't call." He said and I felt bad. I probably over exaggerated, again.

"Did I over exaggerate again? I'm so so—"

"Noooo Kells you didn't. I was just dumb for thinking you would judge me for it. I'm the one who should be sorry." He seriously said.

Me and Jack have fought countless times, due to my obsession with over exaggerating or jumping into conclusions fast. But we were always sticking around after our fights. That's why I love him; he's keeping up with my ass at all costs.

"It's okay Jack. You said you're coming to New York, right?" I asked him.

"Yeah, I will be there in a few hours. Right now I'm on my way to the airport." He said.

"Alright, so, where do you want to meet?"

"Um, the meeting is at four, I will be in Manhattan around seven or sum. Is that okay with you?" He asked.

"Yeah, of course." I agreed.

"Aight, I have to go, I will see you then. By the way, text me your address so I can come there."

"Okay. See you, Jack."

"See you, butterfly." I hang up and smiled. I was kinda nervous to meet him after six months. I know I shouldn't be but, I couldn't help it.

I texted Jack the address and headed downstairs to break the news to mom.

"Hey mom. Are you busy?" I asked and sat on the chair of her small office.

"Nope, just looking at some portfolios. What's up?" She stopped scrolling on her laptop and focused on me.

"Jack will be in New York in a few hours for a meeting and when he will be done with it, he will come here so we can catch up. Is that okay with you?" I asked her and crossed my fingers.

When his mom told my mom that Jack never really went to college and used their money for other stuff, she wasn't really fond of him. But never said anything bad about him. I wish they would all acknowledge his talent but they just don't understand. But they will all be back when he will be huge.

"Of course, I haven't seen him in ages." She smiled and I furrowed my eyebrows.

"Um, okay. I will go upstairs for a nap now. Thanks mom." I weirdly said and ran upstairs. I didn't ask her why she acted like that because she would change her mind. So I let it slide.

I jumped on my bed and took a nap so I could be fresh when Jack would come.
