chapter eight:
BUTTERFLY

Rays of sunshine filled the room. You could tell that today was going to be a sunny day. I slowly rubbed my eyes and looked at Jacques, while he was sleeping.

His head was resting on my waist, and his left hand was wrapped around my waist too. He looked so peaceful.

Last night went better than I thought. I got everything off my chest and Jack didn't disagree with me. He promised that he will talk to me if anything else happens to him and I was so happy that he trusts me as much as I do.

Now that I'm rethinking about it, I may have been a little harsh, I don't know. I hope I didn't attack him mentally with my words.

Jack's braids tickling my stomach popped me out of my thoughts.

"It tickles." I chuckled and he continued moving his head against my skin.

"Good morning, bird." He said in his morning voice as he removed his head from my stomach and kissed my forehead softly. He then laid back on the pillow.

"Morning. How did you sleep?" I asked him with a smile.

"Amazing. Your stomach is a comfortable pillow." I chuckled and he checked his phone.

"Will you stay in New York?" I asked him.

"I have a few meetings with a couple producers in here. I will probably stay in here for about a week." He answered and I nodded.

"You can stay in here, if you haven't booked a hotel room already. We can spend more time together before you leave." I suggested.

"I would love to. If that's okay with your mom, though." He said.

"About that. She wasn't being weird to you when you came in here, right?" I asked him.

"Nope. Why?" He asked confused.

"I don't know, something's strange with her these days. A few months ago she wasn't fond of you for not going to college and spending your parents' money on other things—"

"I'm one hundred percent sure that my mom talked all that shit to her." He interrupted me.
"She probably told her that I spent her money on drugs." He added.

"What? She believes such thing?" I shockingly asked him and he nodded.

"That's the first thing that came to her mind. She and my father cut ties with me after they found out I wasn't attending college." He shrugged his shoulders and I furrowed my eyebrows.

"Oh my god, Jack, I don't know what to say." I wanted to talk about this but no words came out of my mouth. How can parents act so cold? They were supposed to support him in whatever he wanted to follow. Jack's dad was a musician too, an artist. I thought he would understand.

"You don't have to say anything, Kells. When I gain some rap money, I will provide them with the best things of this world. I want them to admit they were wrong and look at me as a successful artist." He explained and I smiled at his passion. He was so humble; most people would shit on their parents if they were on Jacques' position.

"Aw, that's so cute. You're so humble." I admitted and rubbed his cheek with my thumb.

"Thanks. I would never let some racks change me. I'm working hard for them m's and my hard work will definitely pay me off one day. And y'all will be there, with me. I won't switch on anyone. And I definitely won't switch on you." He said while looking me in the eyes and I felt my cheeks getting hot.
