"So.. now what?" asks Peter, sitting down on the large double bed in the centre of our new shared room.
"Now you wait until the fight." says Esme, walking into the room, "You've got two days 'till you fight. That means two days to gain sponsors and fans."
"I beg your pardon?" says Loki.
"Sponsors donate money to help you get the best weapons and armour. Fans cheer you on in the fight, and usually make a big difference." explains Esme.
"What do I do?" asks Peter.
"Well, you can help. The three of you need to mingle in the Grandmaster's parties and with his guests. Like I said, sex is an easy way to get what you want around here- but I'm taking a guess that you're not considering that." says Esme.
"No. We're not." I tell her.
"Okay. Your choice. There are parties every night, so we have two shots until the fight. You may not be having sex, but you sure need to look the part. I'll get you guys something. You get yourselves settles and I'll sort it out." she nods, leaving the room.
"Bye Esme!" smiles Peter.
She nods happily and closes the door behind her.
Peter slumps back onto the bed and lets out a deep huff of air.
"Looks like you're getting a birthday party after all." sighs Loki, looking at the bizarre paintings on the walls.
"Not the one that I want." Peter mutters.
"You feeling okay?" I ask Peter, sitting next to him on the bed.
"I just... what about Aunt May? And the guys who jumped after us in the bifrost? And who is to say you guys will beat the champion? He's supposed to be amazing. What if I'm left alone here, far from home?" asks Peter, raking his hands through his hair, evidently stressed out.
"Don't worry about it. Whatever happens, happens. Look, I'm going to he straight up with you, okay? We might not be okay. But me and Loki wouldn't offer ourselves up together if we thought you wouldn't be smart enough to stay alive." I assure him.
He pulls me tightly into a hug, not letting go, "I couldn't live without you guys. I can't. I won't." he says, pulling away.
"And you won't have to." says Loki, placing a hand on his shoulder sympathetically.
Peter nods and stands up, not wanting to be over-emotional, "I'll uh.. go get in the shower first." says Peter.
"I think we're limited on warm water, so try not to use it all." I call after him. He turns and nods, waking into the bathroom.
Me and Loki look at each other in comfortable silence, him stroking my cheek casually.
"You worried?" he asks.
"A little." I tell him, "But we have to do this. Not just for Asgard, but for Frigga. For Peter. Jane. Thor. Everyone that we remotely care for, we need to do this."
"Even if we do, even if this works... what do we do? Leave here? Go to Asgard? Let Hela crush us?" he questions.
"We do what we always do. Live in the moment. We face a problem, we deal with it when it happens." I tell him.
