Ash groggily walks out, rubbing his eye, he looks so innocent I wish he could stay like this forever. His pale blue button up is wrinkled and unbuttoned, his blonde hair is a mess, he's never seemed so young. For the first time since I met Ash I felt older than him. Ibe-san notices I'm looking behind him and turns around, "hey Ash!" he greets happily. Ash panics and reaches to grab the gun in his waistband that doesn't sit there anymore. I watch his eyes cloud over with shame and I quickly stand up, walking over to him, I get dizzy from standing up too fast but I ignore it and put a hand on his arm letting him know I'm here.
"Sorry for scaring you Ash" Ibe-san apologies and laughs it off getting up to grab Ash a cup of coffee, I lead Ash to the couch. "Are you okay?" I say softly, he looks at me and nods his head, I can tell he doesn't want to talk about it so I drop it but It lingers at the back of my mind.

You live in constant fear. No one should have to feel that way. No one should hear their name and try to pull out a gun. You don't deserve this.
I wish that I could take your place. I know I'd get myself killed. You were born into pain and hurt. I won't let that follow you. I'll help you. I promise.

We all finish breakfast together, eggs and bacon, very simple but im just getting used to cooking again and you can't keep much food down. Ibe-san stays and talks to us for about an hour after we eat, Ash tells him the story of how he escaped death. Apparently Jillian was a nurse at the hospital he ended up at, she knew he would've been taken by someone bad so she took a leave of absence and nursed him back to health in the comfort of her home instead of a hospital room. Once he healed Ash legally changed his name to William, he hates it though, and got a plane ticket here.
Ibe-san leaves to go to a call back meeting with the landscaping company he was talking about. I turn towards Ash and ask, "why didn't you eat, be honest please," he looks at me taken aback by my sudden question. I can tell he's about to bullshit his way out of this but something about my expression makes him stop.
