I panicked. I sprinted back around the corner and began to walk down the straight stretch of hall towards the stairs. I was trying to catch my breath when I heard someone walking behind me.
"Shit, Shit Shit!" I mumbled to myself. I had no idea who it would be.
"Ella, wait up!"
Seamus.
I spun around. "Seamus, hey what brings you down here?"
"I was gonna ask you the same thing," he said with a crooked grin. His grin matched the rest of his uniform, a little untidy, like he had rushed to get dressed this morning. He always seemed to have a smile on his face, and was never bothered by trivial things. He was a tad clumsy like a puppy, clumsy in a way that was adorable.
"I had to ask Snape a question, but he was busy," I replied, as we climbed the stairs.
"Oh. Do you wanna get breakfast," he paused and then continued, "With me?"
I could tell he was nervous. Seamus was the kind of guy that was sweet, but sometimes he was a bit of a troublemaker. His mouth could get the best of him, but in this moment he was almost timid.
"Yeah, I'd like that," I said, giving him a smile.
"Ok, let's go," he said, sticking his arm out for me to grab.
I put my arm around his. Seamus was always a gentleman to the girls. He was an avid Quidditch addict, with the Kenmare Kestrels being his favorite team. He talked about it most of the time.
We entered the Great Hall and I sat down next to Hermione, and Seamus planted himself next to me.
"So, do you like Quidditch?" he asked me.
"Yeah, it's pretty cool," I said glancing at Hermione who was watching the door, obviously waiting for Ron to enter.
"What team is your favorite?" he asked me.
"Umm, well, I'd have to say the Montrose Magpies,"
"Ahh the Magpies? I thought you were a woman with taste," he said, shaking his head, teasing me.
"Well, when they play each other we'll have to go watch them, and see who is clearly better," I said, "Hopefully we'll be on break,"
"I like that idea. The season doesn't start for quite a while though," he said frowning.
"Well then we'll just have to save the date," I said. We had a nice breakfast, and Seamus didn't talk about Quidditch for the entire time.
"Well, we should get going to class, or we'll be late." I said, standing up. Our first class was potions, with Slughorn.
"Yeah. Can I walk with you?" Seamus asked eagerly.
"Sure, let's go," I said and we were off.
The Great Hall wasn't too far from the dungeons, compared to the Gryffindor rooms. Gryffindor was on the 7th floor, but the dungeons were a few flights of stairs downwards.
"So how's school for you so far?" Seamus asked me as we descended some stairs.
"Pretty good. Nothing too bad yet, minus a detention yet to be served with Malfoy" I said looking up at him.
"Well, if anything 'too bad'," he said in air quotes," Happens to you, know I'll be here," he said, stopping in his place once we reached the dungeon floor. He gazed into my eyes, and I could tell how he felt about me. Maybe I had just been too focused on my studies to notice Seamus was sweet on me since we were fourth years. Not that I hadn't "noticed", but I had never really given him the time of day. I could see he wanted to kiss me, and maybe that wasn't such a bad thing.
