During Caesar's civil war with Pompey, the latter fled to Egypt. Caesar pursued Pompey - who had already been murdered by a trio of treasonous Roman military men who were stationed there - and defeated his armies at Alexandria.
Meanwhile, in the midst of a civil war between her supporters and those of her brother, Cleopatra sought help from Caesar. I was in that dilemma when Forbes went inside my office. Pakiramdam ko ay lumiwanag ang lahat sa paligid ko dahil sa pag-dating niya.
"Forbes!" tuwang-tuwa kong bati sa kanya at mabilis na tumayo sa upuan ko para salubungin siyang takang-taka na nakatingin sakin.
"EJ told me you're sick but you don't look like you are," he said as he scanned me from head to toe.
I wanted to roll my eyes at his remark but I still need his brain so good girl muna ako. I smiled at him sweetly, earning a suspicious glare from him.
"What do you need?" he asked after staring at my pretty face for a while.
"Can you help me with something?" I asked him sweetly pero tinaasan lang ako nito ng kilay.
Kahit kailan talaga ang sungit!
"What is it?" he asked at hinayaan akong hatakin siya papalapit sa table ko.
Forbes's like, the most intelligent person I know. At first, I hated him, back in fresh years during law school because of that. He's just too smart at hindi agad natanggap ng ego at pride ko na may mas matalino pa sakin.
But well, we ended up as friends at mas humanga lang talaga ako sa kanya. Lalo na noong nalaman ko ang background ng family niya, although Achi's a smart ass too, there's just something about Forbes na mapapahanga ka talaga.
"I have this parricide case and after talking to the suspect. I end up with this uhmm... riddle?" kwento ko sa kanya habang iniisa-isa na niya ang files at articles na kanina ko pa binabasa.
"Cleopatra and Julius Caesar?" he asked mockingly as he stared at the screen of my laptop.
"Yan nga yung riddle na sinasabi ko!" he shook his head with a playful smirk while he was skimming through the articles relating to Cleopatra and Julius Caesar.
"Ano bang sabi nung suspect?"
"Sheena's Cleopatra and my Dad was Julius Caesar."
"Well, Cleopatra and Julius Caesar had a mutual relationship. They benefitted from each other, didn't you get that?" taas kilay niyang tanong na inirapan ko naman.
"Of course I did!"
"Oh, ano pang pinoproblema mo?" kunot noo nitong tanong.
"Sheena Sison can benefit from Rocky Sison's wealth, pero kung totoong two-way beneficial ang relasyon nila ano naman ang posibleng makuha ni Rocky kay Sheena. And what or how was that connected to the crime?"
"Have you checked Rocky Sison's background?" he asked.
"I did,"
"How deep?" tanong niya na nag-pakunot ng noo ko.
"What do you mean?"
"How deep did your investigation goes?" napakurap-kurap ang mga mata ko sa tanong niya.
Nang makita ang reaksyon ko ay tumayo siya mula pagkaka-upo at bahagyang ginulo ang buhok ko.
"Stop investigating on a surface level, Arci. Dig dipper, secrets may be lurking below the area you had already investigated," naka-ngiti nitong saad.
"Drink your meds on time. Una na muna ako," paalam niya.
Putek! Ang talino talaga ng gago.
"Dapat talaga crim-law na lang practice mo!" puna ko sa kanya habang hinahatid siya sa may pintuan ng office ko.
"I'm enjoying the drama on my field, Arci," naka-ngisi nitong saad. He's practicing marriage law. Tuwang-tuwa atang makakita ng mag-asawang nag-hihiwalay.
"Whatever," I said, rolling my eyes as he waved goodbye. I waited for him to get inside the elevator before I went back inside my office and sat back on my chair.
I was about to browse more on the internet when I saw the sticky note app on the screen. I smirked after realizing that it was Forbes' doing.
Talk to the ex-wife.
I don't know when he typed it but it was there, at the right corner of the screen. I didn't even realize it earlier.
Nakangiting napa-iling na lang ako bago pinindot ang button na magko-connect kay Venus sa labas. A few more moments ay narinig ko na ang pag-katok niya ng tatlong beses bago tuluyang pumasok ng opisina ko.
"Yes, Attorney?" bungad niya ng nakangiti kaya nginitian ko rin siya pabalik.
"Can you get me the contact details of Rocky Sison's ex-wife, please?" paki-suyo ko rito na agad naman nitong tinanguan.
"Sige po, Attorney. Do you need anything else?"
"Wala na. Yun lang, thank you," tumango naman siya bago nag-paalam na lalabas na muna para bumalik sa desk niya ng makapag-umpisa na sa pag-kuha ng contact details na hinihingi ko.
I was absorbed in reading the minutes of the hearing during the annulment ng maistorbo ito ng pag-katok. Nang pumasok si Venus ay inakala kong dala na niya ang details pero hindi pa pala.
Alanganin siyang ngumiti sakin at bahagya pang napakamot sa batok niya.
"Bakit?" taka kong tanong dahil sa inaasal niya.
"Attorney kasi po, may food delivery na dumating, sayo daw po." nagtaka ako dahil sa sinabi niya.
"Nakakain na ko. Baka nag-double yung order mo?"
"Hindi po. Padala daw po ni Attorney Hernandez," nanlaki ang mga mata ko ng marinig na naman ang apelyidong iyon.
Mag-rereact pa sana ako ng magvibrate ang phone ko sa table and when I saw Brent's name as the sender ay agad ko itong binuksan.
'Take the food. Kakain ako diyan, I'm on my way'.
